When I was a child, my Strega Nona would tell stories while we made her infamous peasant elixirs - boiling bones & bark – or grinding roots & flowers in the mortar & pestle. That was when I first heard the term Pleroma, which she described as the robe of Wisdom. This glorious image lives deeply in me. In college, while studying what was then called ‘Comparative Religions’ I came to learn that in Gnostic cosmology the Greek term Pleroma (πλήρωμα) means: ‘The fullness of the Divine Presence ‘ - It represents the Eternal - Infinite Source - Beyond Time & Space - a state of Oneness, where all things exist in harmonious chorus - The Center AND the Circle - a realm encompassing the entirety of past & potential Being from which all creation emanates – ever interpenetrating the here, there, & everywhere – And what I have come to realize thru my Cognitive Ritual work, is that the Pleroma is in essence not a place, but a state of being – I can achieve glimpses of the robe of Wisdom when I am able to transcend my sense of separateness - to enter, even if for just a flash, a consciousness of Unity radiating Love – which feels like my true soul-home. My imagination brings in pictures of Divine Emanations - Pulsing with the essence of the Nous-Mind, the Sophia-Wisdom, the Logos-Word - & all the Divine Archetypes that share facets of the Infinite.
Image my wonder & delight to find that colleagues working to cultivate the relationship between humanity & these ‘Divine Emanations’, in the modern Rosicrucian ritual practice thru Rudolf Steiner’s Misraim Dienst – have created The Pleroma Anthroposophia Temple in the Tuscany region of Italy, (an hour away from the ancestral home of my Strega Nona) 5 of us from Mysteria Mystica Americana are participating in an international conference there in a few days – where we will collaborate with colleagues from other countries like Romania, to perform ceremonies in the Pleroma Temple that demonstrate the essence & reality of the Spirit – This Service or ‘Dienst’ refers to humanity’s service to the Spiritual World – We must serve if we are to become co-creators in cosmic evolution - this Ritual working also cultivates a new kind of community founded on the Spiritual Fraternity of sister/brotherhood – a service or support in the rising of the Divine moral potential of the striving human being.
