~Confessions of a Modern Rosicrucian - The Italian Connection - Canto V: Unity in Community
The High-Priestess of Fools at heart, & a Hermit by nature – I am - an inner alchemist seeking the Wisdom that comes from the godhood within. Alone with the angels I polish my lantern & make gestures into the ethers. The fluid darkness of the Virgin Isis is the ink with which I inscribe myself upon the hand of god. And yet I came into this life with a star-wish – a yearning for kinship. I’ve searched, & stepped in here & there, gathering much fruit in its season - which eventually faded as I changed & grew. And so it has been, that for 30 years I labored to build the inner Temple of Anthroposophia alone, while creating my own Community Circles – working with the Festivals on the Wheel of the Year – in the general population, & in the Anthroposophical Society in America.
Folks are all-in during the powerful gatherings - but I began to see that behind the intellectual stimulation, or the ecstatic glow, there wasn’t a true desire to put the will into practice - to build on those energies - to manifest them in a disciplined way in everyday life –
Why is the social realm always so fraught? Will I ever find a true resonance? Where are my people? I don’t want to lead & I don’t want to follow - I am looking for collaborators - other striving souls that are willing to go deep.
3 years ago, when my life was at a turning-point - the work of Frater GTS & the Pleroma Temple, where the Misraim Service, a renewed Rosicrucian Ritual practice which cultivates the relationship between the human being & the Hierarchies, came into my peripheral vision – Popping up more & more - I followed & weighed their offerings from a distance – Asking myself: Is this too good to be true? Synchronicities became undeniable - Frater GTS would lecture on a theme that I was researching or writing about - I would see photos of the Pleroma community on their various sacred travels - I explored their extensive web site - a treasure trove of esoteric offerings, managed by the creative johnny-on-the-spot get-er-done, polymath Frater A, a true Hiram Abiff for the Pleroma Temple.
I noticed that Frater RC would often comment on their doings, which led me to Mysteria Mystica Americana, the 1st Grand Lodge of the United States – hmmm…I wondered…? But still I held back, asking for a sign. My dear colleague Soror LLD, knew about my desire to work with the Misraim Dienst. I had asked her to check out GA 265a, ‘Lessons for the Participants of Cognitive-Ritual Work’, so that perhaps we could do something with it together. Months later she asked me if I had heard of Frater RC - I got thrill-bumps & told her all about how I had been stalking him & Pleroma. Turns out he just showed up to the Michaelmas event that I helped her plan - since he lives in TX! I vaguely remembered that Dr. James Dyson had turned me on to a book by his friend NVP Franklin where RC was mentioned… Was the veil finally lifting – my prayer answered - The signs aligned announcing that YES, there are people all over the world who are practicing the Cognitive-Ritual Work of Rudolf Steiner! What a confirmation – the future was calling me to step in.
When Frater RC & I, on behalf of MA went to Sweden, & I took the Fellowship Degree, many amazing souls in the group working the Misraim Dienst in the Pleroma Temple were there for my initiation. I got to commune with the crew for a week in Stockholm before the rite, going to sacred & historic sites - Frater GST interviewing the various Warden’s, & sharing his research into the continuity & connections with occult history, creating inspirations & encouraging participation. The social atmosphere within this inspired group of earnest seekers on the path is unlike any I have hitherto known – sincere, open, engaged – there is an aura of warmth that connects them – it vibes like a new kind of group-soul – a living confirmation that a Christic Egregore is possible! – A conscious living into the Pleroma of Sophia. There is a rhythm that unites them – they flow together - making sure everyone is included – no conventions of superficial politeness – no small talk or gossip, just a simple transparent exchange on the esoteric themes always at hand.
When I met Pleroma again on this trip to Italy, the group expanded to include many from the Esoteric Section – 60 - fully engaged souls gathered on the weekend before the Equinox at the Green Riveira in Giaietta. CG & I were coming in from our intense healing trial with the Levico Waters at Casa Raphael described in Canto IV – I was feeling cracked-open & tender. We arrived a day & a half before the Michaelic gathering commenced – where we were wholeheartedly welcomed by Frater S, who is not only a intricate member of the Order, he also runs the amazing Casa Vancanza Retreat Center where many of the Esoteric Section gatherings occur.
And what a delight to finally meet Frater A in person after a year of text exchanges. I am in awe of his ability to get things done, making the spirit manifest. Frater GTS generously took time to walk the land with us - our Socratic conversations brought perspective & inspiration. He is a rare individual – He listens with an objective love-imbued-soul, & speaks from the Wisdom of Spirit.
When folks starting streaming in, it became clear that besides those working the rites of the Misraim Dienst, there are many esoteric students, young & old, in their Michael School who are following an exacting protocol of study & practicum - taking up in a systematic way Steiner’s Esoteric School - Volumes I & II GA 264 & 265 - supplemented by exercises that put the neophyte to the test - a monthly report that they complete showing how they have integrated the material thru Art, Science & Spiritually. I saw first hand how the fruits of this rigorous schooling is the foundation for their Conscious Community – The open secret of their Social Harmony! It even inspired my beloved CG to begin working with the lessons!
Also present were those who have taken up the Biography training, as given by Frater GTS, & were now ready to become teachers & practitioners themselves. My dear Soror KT who I wrote about in Canto II, was one of the graduates. The Biography work is part of what they call their Raphael School - a practical healing that comes from the ancient axiom ‘Know Thyself’! This work was ever in the atmosphere, we often shared our stories during the delectable meal times. I even met a sister who was from Bagni di Lucca - The province where my Grandfather Paulo Lucchesi was from (stay tuned for Canto VI)
We had Nature excursions, & contemplations by the Lake - Group Eurythmy & Spirited Singing - Meditative experiences with Frater V - We baked the Bread of Michael, & spoke to the Stars with Frater S. It was like a bolt of lightning when Frater GTS gave his stirring lectures, speaking easily from the heart, invoking the Spirit of Natura; & my fav. revealing the Name Michael thru The Book of Thoth - which they re-designed from Steiner’s indications, the color inspirations of Frater GTS, & the artistic skill of Frater A – called The Arcana of the Magdelene.
The peak highlight was the grand Michael Mass where I was honored to perform eurythmy as part of the ritual.
As fate would have it Soror EC, who was at the Cosmic Dance workshop, is also a recent member of the Michael School - she generously helped with translations making the experience complete. It was mind-bending to think how the very next weekend for the Feast of St. Michael, 29 September, Pleroma gathered with over 100 people at the Temple of San Michele in Purugia. They have taken up the task of creating sacred trips to all the sites in the legendary ‘Sword of St. Michael ley line’ transecting Sanctuaries thru-out Europe into the Holy Land. They also do pilgramages to other sacred sites all over the world. Our annual fall preparation making will be on Saturday October 11 at Zinniker FarmWe’ll be filling horns for BD500 Horn Manure preparation. Other activities include making the BD503 Chamomile preparation, burying the fall preparations or taking out the BD501 Horn Silica horns and BD504 Stinging Nettle preparation. This is a hands-on workday, please dress for the weather and to get dirty.
