On the interpersonal side - the Cross-Quarter Harvest Festival of Lammas, is about stepping up to do the inner work needed to manifest, & preserve, what feeds our body, mind & soul. As the Sun slides into the dark half of the year, we have an opportunity to look at, not only our harvest of Sun-ripened gold, we can also take stock of the shadows that appear like medicinal weeds waiting for us to turn them into medicine. A true accounting of what we have sown includes any regrets, disappointments, &, the ability to say farewell to what does not serve. We heal when we acknowledge our grief, or loss. It’s a way of facing ourselves. For not everything we plant will grow, or is meant to. We can use this time to think of the seeds we planted that have not come to fruition – so as to release all unmet expectations - to make room for what is there to harvest. yep - Sometimes we just have to say Fare thee well – When enough is enough - put it in the compost & move on. We can ask: What do I need to let go of? What is over? What needs to pass away from my life? What must die? Say thank-you & good-bye. Another aspect is to think: What do we want to Preserve: Yes, this ancient art is making a revival – canning like our grandmothers did. And as the bounty flows, we can make preserves, either literally or symbolically. As we turn the Summer’s fruit into jams, jellies & chutneys for winter, we can think about the seeds we want to keep - seeds we will plant next year. How can we keep these seed potentials, sweet, in the root cellar of our memory? Speaking of sweet: The traditional day for the blessing of the beehives, is August 8th - Which is also one of the last times for a healthy honey harvest - We cannot keep taking from these spiritual messengers of the Sun – we must leave enough honey for the bees so that they have the reserves they need to survive the coming winter. And So dear friends, Gather the seeds you want to save, & feed the culls to the gulls. Bake a loaf of bread - & make a point of honoring the source of the flour as you work with it – BTW: Zinniker Farm has harvested Biodynamic Pfeiffer Wheat that will be processed into flour for sale - for the 1st time this year!In the past the Zinniker’s only grew it for themselves & their animals, but now they want to see if there is interest in this amazing grain. Ehrenfried Pfeiffer began working with an ancient variety of feral spelt found in Italy, derived from a team of seed breeders in the biodynamic farming movement back in the day, in Holland, Switzerland & Germany, where, Mark Zinniker’s Grandfather, worked, experimenting with indications from Rudolf Steiner’s agriculture course.Anyway, it’s very exciting. If you know you know So, if you are interested in signing up to receive a share of the harvest - Contact the Family Farm Initiative – Supplies are very limited, so put in your order now.Yes, bake that bread – & if you have a garden, add something you’ve harvested to the recipe – some herbs or veggies. If you don’t feel up to making wheat bread, make corn bread, or gingerbread people, or popcorn…What is most important is our good intention. To manifest & harvest the sacred, we need an awareness of our motives – we can set good will behind our actions – Then our harvest will be rich & abundant, able to nourish all worlds. Thank-you dear friends, & come visit us at the Zinniker Farm in the Heartland where we will be ‘Bringing in the Sheaves’ - I Am - Saying Grace with you – sending Blessings of Love in the Wisdom of Freedom, with a prayer for Peace & Good Will for all.
