"Great, I may do a couple trial runs, making my way there and back to make sure I can do it without someone seeing me. I also need to make sure there are no dogs to alert anyone." He waited for it to get just a little dark, while he waited, he dressed in black clothing so he would fade into the background. He left lights on in the living room and turned the tv on, trying to make it look like he was there. "If someone was to come close to the house, that should make them think I am at home." Aaron thought.
He then made his way to his back door and stepped outside. He had intentionally left the lights off in the kitchen so not to be seen when he came out the door. He made his way to his back fence, climbed over it, and then followed the map he memorized. It took him a while to get there but he did. As he stood in the woods looking at the back of Norma's house he thought. "This place looks familiar." Yet, he did not know why.
He left, made his way back home and back inside his house. As he stepped inside, he looked to see how long it took. "Great, I will do another run just to make sure." he thought. As he started to make his way through the kitchen, someone started to knock on his front door. 'Who in the world can that be?" he thought as he quickly stopped in mid step. "I can't let whoever it is see me in all black." he thought.
He stepped into the laundry room, grabbed another shirt, and put it on, then he quickly took off his shoes. He left his shirt tail out so to look like he was relaxing at home. He then heard the knock again. "I will be right there!" Aaron hollered as he walked toward the front door. As he made his way there, he stopped and grabbed one of his pistols and put it in the back of the waist band of his pants. He wasn't taking any chances.
He walked to the door and reached for the doorknob, holding his right hand behind his back, close to his pistol. He opened the door to find a man standing there, it was the neighbor next door. The one he hardly ever saw, who stayed to himself. "Can I help you?" Aaron asked. "My name is Timothy; I live next door. I am sorry but my truck will not start, and I am going to be late for work." Timothy said. "Okay." Aaron replied.
"I have no one else to ask, can you help me?" Timothy asked. "Help you with what?" Aaron replied. "Take me to work. I know it's a lot to ask but the owner doesn't put up with people being late. He will fire you in a heartbeat and will not think twice about doing it. If I don't go, I will most likely get fired and it's to far to walk." Timothy said.
Aaron stood there a moment, debating whether to do it or not. "This is the first time meeting you and you want me to take you to work." Aaron thought. After what seemed like many minutes but was only a moment or two Aaron asked. "Where do you work?" "I do maintenance for the mill." Timothy replied. That quickly perked up Aaron. "The mill! Great, maybe I can get a closer look at it and maybe see the owner." Aaron thought.
"Sure, I can take you. Give me a moment to find my shoes. Come on in it will not take me but a minute to do." Aaron said. Timothy stepped inside and stood by the door while Aaron disappeared, then came back. "My truck is in the garage; we can go through the kitchen to get there." Aaron said. Timothy followed Aaron to the garage, and they got into the truck and pulled out. "I hope this isn't a set up to get me out somewhere." Aaron thought.
"How long have you worked at the mill?" Aaron asked. "Not long after I moved here, I was able to get hired." Timothy replied. "Is there a reason you stay to yourself?" Aaron asked. Timothy didn't answer for a moment, then said. "I have my reasons." Aaron decided not to push it and dropped the subject.
"How are you going to get back home?" Aaron asked, as they made their way to the mill. "I can walk, I had to do it before." Timothy replied. "If you have a cell phone, I can give you my number. You can call me, and I will come get you." Aaron said. "Thanks, but I can find a way home." Timothy replied.
"When you get back home let me know, we can take a look at your truck. Maybe with both our minds we can get it running." Aaron said. "Thanks, but I can fix it, just didn't have time at the moment." Timothy replied. "I feel like he doesn't want me over to his house." Aaron thought. "If you make a right turn up here, we can come in the back way to the mill, you will be driving by the lake when you do. That's where I mainly work, out of a building behind the mill." Timothy said. Aaron did what Timothy asked of him. It was very dark behind the mill as Aaron made his way down a gravel road.
Well, the offer stands if you need any help." Aaron said, as he pulled up by an open gate. Just then a sports car came speeding by, leaving the mill. "Who in the world was that? Aaron asked. "That's my boss, Stephen Roach, he owns the mill." Timothy replied. "He needs to slow down. I would think he wouldn't want to drive that thing on a gravel road." Aaron said.
"You never know when he will show up. It may be in the middle of the night or even during the day." Timothy said. Aaron turned the truck off as Timothy got out. "Thank you. I don't even know your name." Timothy said. "My name is Aaron." Aaron replied. "Thank you Aaron I will try not to bother you again." Timothy said. "It wasn't a problem, here take my card, just in case, it has my cell number on it." Aaron said, as he stretched across the seat.
Timothy took it, then shut the door to the truck, disappearing in the dark of the mill property. "Well, that was different. He sure was being evasive when I was asking him questions. I wonder where Mr. Roach was going in such a hurry?" Aaron thought. He pulled away from the mill and went back the way they came.
He had not gotten far when he noticed something a good way ahead of him. It was the lights of a vehicle, and it looked like it was no longer on the road. "Great what now?" Aaron thought as he got closer. As he got closer, he saw it was the sports car, the one that had come flying out of the mill just minutes before. He wasn't taking any chances, so he made sure his pistol was still tucked into the back of his pants before he stopped.
He turned his truck so he could see the car better and saw most of the front of it was in the lake. "Is anyone inside the car?" Aaron hollered as he ran up to it. He received no reply. "Well, I have no choice but to go into the water. I can't just stand here and wait for others to come." Aaron said to himself. He took his pistol back to the truck and hid it, then ran back to the car.
"Hello! Is any inside the car?" Aaron yelled but again received no reply. "Well, here I go!" Aaron said as he waded into the cold water of the lake. He had to yank on the driver's door a couple times before it finally opened. When it did the driver started to fall out. Aaron grabbed the man's lifeless body and pulled him to shore.
He checked for a pulse but couldn't detect one, so he started CPR. It wasn't long before Aaron saw lights and a truck pulled up. Aaron knew the truck; it was one of the vehicles that had followed him through town. He heard a couple people get out and ran toward them. The best Aaron could tell there were three men. "What happened to him?" one of the men asked, as they got up to Aaron.
"My neighbor's truck would not start, and he asked if I could bring him to work. I was leaving and came upon the car in the water. He's not breathing!" Aaron replied. "We've got this now. You can go on your way." the man replied. "You need to call the sheriff and an ambulance." Aaron said. "Like I said, we've got this! You can go on your way now!" said the only man speaking among the three.
Aaron felt like if he didn't leave, he may find himself in the lake next. He made his way back to his truck, grabbed a blanket he kept behind the seat and threw it over his seat. He got in, then proceeded to pull away. "I don't like this a bit. Why are they not calling someone?" Aaron thought as he drove. He drove slowly and could see them carrying the man to the truck. "What have I gotten myself into moving here?" Aaron thought.
