THINK TOGETHER
Who is your favorite super hero? How did they get their super powers?
READ TOGETHER
Do you like super hero stories? A lot of superheroes were once normal people who then had something super enter into them and change them from the inside. The Bible says that something similar happens to us when we trust in Jesus. When we receive his life as our own, we are receiving the Holy Spirit into our hearts. Here's how the book of Acts describes what happened when the Holy Spirit came:
Acts 2:1-4. 1When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit....
Every Christian is filled with the Holy Spirit. When we receive the Holy Spirit it's like receiving a super power – the super power of Jesus' love:
John 15:9. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.
And his joy:
John 15:11. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
And his peace:
John 14:27. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.
Now everything that Jesus asks us to do, we CAN do! Why? Because we have Jesus' own love, joy, and peace in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. But like every superhero we have to learn how to live with our new super powers. We have to learn how to love like Jesus, and have joy and peace like Jesus. It won't be easy, but it will be possible as we learn to trust Jesus more and more.
Because of Jesus we have the Holy Spirit living in us.
With Jesus we can live in his love, joy, and peace every day.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Watch/talk about one of your favorite super hero movies. In what way did the hero have to learn how to use their super powers? In the same way we have to learn to trust that we have Jesus' love, joy, and peace inside of us.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you have given me the Holy Spirit when I trusted in you to save me. Help me to live from his love, joy, and peace every day. Amen.
