Receiving the Sacrament of Nature here on the Emerald Isle as part of Pleroma Travel during the 10 days between Ascension & Pentecost has made this more than a pilgrimage – it is a rite-of-passage – a preparation to perceive the Etheric Christ living in the Cosmic realms - & yet fully present as the Spirit of the Earth – the ‘Lord of the Elements’ – which for me right now is vividly living in a mystic marriage with Brigid the Celtic Triple Goddess of Head, Hands & Heart - giving birth to the New Mysteries of Anthroposophia in me.
This in-between time before Pentecost can be one of profound sadness & confusion – described by Rudolf Steiner as a kind of death experience. Akin to the old mystery traditions, when after a time of catharsis & preparation, there is a mystical death. ‘All real knowledge, all knowledge that can truly be called great is born from pain, from inner travail…And out of this pain, out of this infinite sorrow, there springs what we call the Mystery of Pentecost…Having lost sight of the Christ at the Ascension, the disciples found a new sight in their inmost being…found it through sorrow, through pain.’ ~Rudolf Steiner, 17 May 1923, Christiana
During those painful 10 days, those who walked with Christ Jesus stayed together as an Ecclesia. Linked thru their pain & introspection, they prayed & pondered the life of Christ - trying to make sense of the seeming loss - first on Good Friday, & then again on Ascension Thursday. This intensity bonded them into a new community, with the ‘Mother of Jesus’ at the center -A new knid of intentional family, not of blood, but of Faith - a new wine skin, a Marian chalice, a vessel for The Holy Spirit to enter into - a container for the Eternal Flame - Flashing in like the winds of change at Pentecost thru the sacred portal created during those 50 days, to pour into this new community the true Understanding of the Mystery of Golgotha & the Ascension in full wisdom - enabling them speak out of individual freedom regarding the Truth & healing power of the Spirit - Speaking the Language of the heart, that all can understand. This sacred mood of Pentecost – The New Festival of the Word - Ignites the fresh innovative language of the Sophia-Logos, upholding the ideal of Free Speech. Let us take up this chalice - For our current World events must be given voice. Pentecost is the Festival of NOW, highlighting the challenging relationships of Self & Community – Offering us an opportunity to transcend polarities.
Right now - Our day star Sun is speaking thru the sidereal stars of the Bull - that region of the Zodiac connected to the human Larynx, giving us the capacity for self-expression. Giving us a chance to ask the Parzival Question: ‘What ails Thee?’ - To ask: How can we work as individuals to transform our ingrained sympathies & antipathies? How can we: Purify our astral nature in order to make ourselves into a vessel worthy to receive the Holy Spirit - giving us the possibility of manifesting the ‘Spirit Self’- in our Higher '“I” - which will provide the capacity for us to create new social forms..?
In Steiner’s lectures on the ‘Gospel of John’, he points out that the name Mary is never used - it always says: “the Mother of Jesus”. Spiritual Science equates this with the alchemical phrase: the ‘Virgin Sophia’ = the purified astral body - It is this Virgin Sophia = the Mother of Jesus - who is “in their midst” at Pentecost. They meet in ‘The Upper Room’ where they last experienced the New Sacrement of the Last Supper. Into this community space, with the Virgin Sophia in their midst, comes the Holy Spirit = the ‘Universal I AM’, which can then speak out of this communal purified astral body. The Holy Spirit comes with a rushing of wind & flames that individualizes onto each one of the disciples, & “stays upon each of them”(this is the same phrase used at the Baptism of Jesus) They then began to speak a new language “as the Holy Spirit gave them utterance.” This is a speaking, which transcends earthly languages, for everyone understands, & is amazed.
Here we have a great reversal - for in ancient times the human being experienced the Higher I AM outside of themselves in the cosmos by leaving the body thru initiation. Even with the ‘Rasing of Lazarus’, the first Christian initiation performed in public by the Christ, Lazarus was “called forth” by Jesus acting as the hierophant from without. Pentecost inaugurates a New Age, so that now human beings, thru a personal path of self-guided catharsis, comes to an awakening of the Higher I AM in “their inmost being”. This catharsis opens us so that the transformative power of Love can enter. When we look at the Greek word ‘catharsis’ we see that “charis”means Grace - the Grace of the Freely Willed Love of God. In ancient Greek we know there are several words for love: Eros–romantic love; Philia–brotherly/family love; Agape–Divine Love, or love of the human for the Divine. Going thru a Catharsis we can experience the Love of the Divine for the human being - a Grace bestowed by God.
The intense rush of spirit planted in the hearts of human beings highlights one of the greatest challenges of being human: placing our individual gifts, our individual ego, in right relationship within the social realm. This challenge is strongly felt during our present age of the Consciousness Soul. Our groups striving to know the New Rosicrucian Mysteries of Spiritual Science - working together as a community - have the possibility to create this type of conscious culture. And the opportunity is here for each of us to meet, human to human, where a sacrament is possible in every encounter. Our individual strength comes from our personal development, & is enhanced by weaving our gifts together with others, knitting our social world in conscious community - providing a bridge between the macro & microcosmic streams in the world & in human beings striving to create a conscious Michaelic community.
This Sophia inspired Michaelic community can be seen as a vessel in which the Christ Being can unite with humanity - so that striving individuals can meet to continue this work of evolution. We get a foreshadowing of this through the Whitsun experience of the 1st apostles. Today we face immense questions about the future of humanity, with division, polarization, lack of understanding & failed communication, creating the social problems of our time. Only by a personal & social catharsis, which can allow for the true Spirit of Freedom - the true I AM - to eclipse our small personal egotism & the lower impulses of our nature, can a new community, & new language of Universal sister/brotherhood be created. Only out of the spiritual recognition of the Universal Human Being, will the ideas & applications of a new approach to Fraternity in Economics; Equality in human Rights; & Freedom in the Cultural/Spiritual life, be accomplished. May we strive to serve this goal out of the Grace of The Holy Spirit. ~hag
