The Birth-Story in a nutshell: It was in preparing for the Spring Equinox Rite when she entered my aura. Her name: Ultra-Violet Archer, came in a dream series of 3: In the first - 3 months before I knew I was enceinte - I saw a little girl with red-black hair & blue eyes, standing between a wall of water & a wall of fire. Her name was Violet. Then 3 months later, after I knew I was with child; she came again this time as an older boy, his back turned, so that he was facing the wall of water & the wall of fire. When he turned, I saw he had blond hair & blue eyes - I knew his name was Archer. I was almost 39 years old. The Hermetic Order I was working with made me the honorary Lady of the Sacred Land that year. I was exalted. I thought, O - WOW. Perhaps thru the birthing experience I can heal my Mother Wound. The bio donor said NO – & proceeded to demonize Mother & Child. The Community of my Hermetic Order held me in my gestation. Sprung from a childhood of incest & unrest; & because I had always seen myself as a Crone wannabee - the Temple my only home - there was no room in my world-view, or in my life cirrcumstance for family, no white picket fences were on the horizon. So, I searched & found a beautiful young family who wanted to adopt her – The plan was that I would pump milk & be the fairy god-mother. Surrounded by doulas, I found a midwife & planned a home birth. I was the Fertility Goddess incarnate, beaming radiance – the first & last time in this body that I had a true sense of well-being. But at 8 months along, the baby was breech. I tried all the holistic modalities to get her to turn, to no avail. Then Papillion, a member of our Order, destined to become one of her 3 God-fathers, suggested I go see a Babaaláwo he had just had a divination with. (He didn’t mention at the time that a pregnant woman in trouble had come up in his reading.) I don’t go in for that sort of thing, being the Rosicrucian that I am, but I thought, well, I have tried everything else, maybe he can spark an insight on how to get the baby to turn – So I went. The IFA Priest threw the cowrie shells & the prophesy said: ‘The child you carry has a special destiny. Her Name will be Known like the Sun; but you must be her Mother’. I said, ‘O well, I’m going to have an open adoption, so I’ll be able to see her all the time’. But he said no, I needed to be her Mother all the way. He pointed to the shells scattered on the rug & went on: ‘There are adversarial forces trying to keep her out of incarnation, so either you, or her ,will die in childbirth’.
With my head spinning, & my heart ringing, I went home that day pondering for the first time actually taking on the full task of Motherhood. Sfter 3 days, I woke up with the 3rd piece of the dream series, (too long to recount here) & knew her name was Ultra-Violet. The decision made, my Hermetic Community rallied around us. I was given everything a new Mother could ever need. We did much prayer & ritual to counteract the forewarning. But she never did turn. She was born butt-first on the Full Beaver Moon 11/22/99 at 9:44 pm. Her Apgar score was perfect. All was well. Prophesy averted we all shouted! Then an hour later she just stopped breathing. They took her away - rushed her off to intensive care. Ok so, I had chosen to be a Mother, & what - now at the birth, my baby dies - or is brain damaged from lack of oxygen? And so it was that she took the hit. More prayer & ritual. The doctors never knew what happened; so, after 3 days, against hospital orders, I took my baby home. It was Thanksgiving day 1999.
She started talking early, although being phlegmatic by nature, or perhaps because of her traumatic birth, walking & other motor skills came late. One of the first stories she told when she was around 2 years old, was about how her Angel called her back over the Rainbow Bridge on her Birth Day because she forgot one of her colors. A poem for my daughter on her 25th Birthday Reach for the story - as you walk in the legend…May you meet yourself, in every tree & rock - quickened by tendrils of light...Holy & perfect is the search - which lives by fire in the embrace of spirit...Awaken as your deeds spark flames - like a Sun Flower remembered by a lover... The cork has been lifted from the unguent jar - O cascade of Genesis perfumed - the past has been written, rolled & sealed, & the future is a Hawks-eye, ranging the sky unblinking - Open. Shut. Perfect... From our own bodies we give - birth to all time & its seasons - look now with new eyes & see the wise star within...& All-Ways Re-Member. You are the mud - between the toes of the Beloved...May She make of you a poultice for the healing, that from the commingling, the lotus may take root - a strong foundation for the blossoming...
