It's definitely summer now. We've had temperatures in the 90's where I live. It's a time when our thoughts turn to vacationing -- maybe to the beach, where the sea breeze is cooler, to picnics, family reunions, and all sorts of out-door activities. If you're traveling during this season, don't forget about worship services. I always enjoy visiting new churches to see how they do things, and what ministries they support. Sometimes that gives me ideas that I can use in my own spiritual life or in my congregation.
Often churches take a break from Bible study and Sunday School during this time of the year. That doesn't mean you have to! Find a study you can do on your own, check some inspirational books out of the library, follow a Christian blog (like this one) or listen to Christian podcasts.
This is a "no theme" month, so any of our authors choosing to post can let the Spirit lead them. As always, I will be reviewing books and movies, and letting you know what my reading group (Read With Me) recommends. Maybe you'll find something that fits into your summer routine!
I hope this time of the year encourages you to slow down and enjoy the beautiful world God has made. It's a good time to evaluate your spiritual disciplines and plan for the fall. What do you want to study? What do you want to read? Who can you encourage? What can you pray about? How can you help your congregation? Think about these things. They are not a duty, but a joy.
