Back to the political stuff.
In the mid-80s, The Housemartins were extremely important to me, combining jingly-jangly indie-pop records with leftie lyrics. Even more importantly, I was able to include loads of their songs on the mix-tapes I used to lovingly compile to be played in the 6th Form Common Room.
This morning's song is one such beast, gloriously happy and upbeat sounding, when actually it's a call-to-arms for like-minded folks, pointing out the true characteristics of those who blindly vote Conservative. It remains true to this day, and you could extend it to anyone voting Reform UK because they somehow think Farage is a "man of the people", just because he likes a pint and a fag, when actually he's a former banker, with a well-documented history of racist behaviour and associates, who forever plays the victim (see his response to several of their candidates (and subsequently canvassers) being exposed as massive racists, which he blamed on the vetting company they instructed and paid to vet them;
...and the events over the weekend, following that appearance on BBC's Question Time when the Birmingham audience had the audacity to challenge him on his views and party policies; at the time of writing, he is refusing to attend a scheduled interview with the BBC because of their "bias audience selection", which is funny, given he's never had an issue with them on any of the *checks notes* 35 other times he's been on the show).
Phew! Nearly went off on a rant there. So, for the lols, this (which is definitely Not Safe for Work, as it contains both images and words likely to cause offence):
Anyhoo, here are The Housemartins:
The Housemartins - Sheep
And, since I was a bit light on Glastonbury content over the weekend, I can thoroughly recommend watching Paul Heaton's set, with a surprise guest appearance, which you can find here (for a limited time).
More soon.
