To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 136:7
The Grand Galvez's adorable pink and white lounge chairs complete with umbrellas protect you from the sun!
I can't believe it's already July!!! Summer please slow down! If you live close to an ocean it is definitely time to visit! The closest body of salt water we have is the Gulf of Mexico and I love to visit it as often as I can.
Last weekend my husband and I decided that it was time to go to the beach! We only had two days available, so we chose to go to the beach that is the closest to our home…that would be Galveston Isalnd! Galveston has a rich history, some good and some bad. It is going through a little upgrade right now, so it is the perfect time to visit!
We always stay at the beautiful Grand Galvez when we visit Galveston! The Galvez sits on Seawall Boulevard; that is the name of the road that takes you all the way down the island and onto other connecting islands. We always stay on one of the top floors on the gulf side so that we can have this beautiful view. I love waking up to the ocean waves and the beautiful sunshine! The Galvez has just undergone a big renovation and it's gorgeous!
One of our favorite places to eat is Blvd. Seafood. It has the most wonderful seafood around! I always get their cedar plank salmon…I love salmon and this is so fresh, tender, and yummy! There isn't much parking and it is always packed, so go early. It is worth the wait and it is really close to The Galvez! If you are craving Mexican food, I highly recommend Salsa's. It is also on Seawall Boulevard, just about 5-10 minutes father down…depending on the traffic.
Look at the gorgeous fountain that sits in front of the Galvez. I love a gentle fountain and the fact that this one is a beautiful blue at night is wonderful and very soothing after driving through crazy Houston traffic!
This is the view from our room at night. The beach is actually across the street from the Galvez. It is so pretty at night. The wind was really blowing, but we still saw people walking in the sand late that night.
Look at the fountain in the morning! Isn't it pretty? You can walk right up to it. It just makes me so ready for a day on the water!
While you are in Galveston, you are definitely going to want to go shopping on The Strand! The Strand is made up of a street or two in downtown Galveston. The old office buildings have been transformed into cute shops. Galveston Island Dry Goods Company is always my first stop. You can get nice Galveston T-shirts, sweaters, and books about Galveston Island there. Keep walking and you'll find lots of touristy shops and cute boutiques on The Strand too. There is a big cruise ship dock within walking distance of The Strand and we have seen a lot of tourists stretching their legs and shopping. It's kind of crazy, they come in packs!!!
If you want a yummy lunch while you are shopping, we have eaten at Yoga's Cafe several times and it has never disappointed! Just enter The Strand into Google maps and it pops right up! There are parking garages for the cruise ships that you can park in and parking on the street if you are a good at parallel parking.
Look at the ceiling in our room! It's blue, just like the ocean. I loved the combination of the blue ceiling and the white walls. It was so soothing. This is definitely on our to do list for our bedroom at home!
The art in our room was a throwback to the early days of vacationing on Galveston Island. This bathing suit was all the rage back then. Such fashion!
I love to needlepoint and look at this canvas that Postcard Row just released! I looked up the definition for Coastal Elite and it says people that summer on the East and West coast, but I think vacationing on the Gulf Coast makes you Elite too! If you have the opportunity to visit the coast, do it. You are definitely Elite!!! This canvas may need to go into my needlepoint stash!
Where are you going on your next vacation? Let me know, I need some ideas for future trips!!!
