Words are powerful. They can wound. They can heal. Their effects can last forever.
Words change us. They may affirm what we already believe and our beliefs become stronger. They may challenge what we believe and through our resistance, our beliefs become stronger.
Sometimes words can do both. They help us sort out what we truly believe and what we don't.
But no human words have The Power of God's Words. God's Words are more than just a collection of letters. God's Words are actually alive!
Paul said,
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
Hebrews 4:12
God's Words penetrate so deeply they reach into our soul. They judge our thoughts. They judge our attitude beneath those thoughts.
How is that possible? Because God's Words are actually God Himself.
John said,
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God!"
John 1:1
John continued. He spoke of The Word, foretelling how God would reveal Himself through the creation of everything and everyone.
John said, "All things were made by Him. Without Him, nothing was made that has been made. He was Life!"
John 1:3-4
God created everyone and everything by His Words.
Most amazingly, God gave physical human form to His Words. He revealed Himself as Jesus.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14
What Jesus spoke was God. This is what Jesus said.
"There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.
For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say."
John 12:48-50
The Word is alive. The Word is God!
