What was the name of the long-running concert series from WGBH featuring the Boston Pops Orchestra and special guests?
From 1970 to 2004, PBS ran a sort of variety show with musical performances by Beantown's celebrated Boston Pops under the direction of conductors Arthur Fiedler, John Williams and Keith Lockhart. Most episodes had a special guest or guests from the world of music and entertainment. Some of these guests included the Carpenters, Penn & Teller, Ethel Merman, Julia Child, Ella Fitzgerald, Julie Andrews, Bea Arthur, Benny Goodman and the cast of SESAME STREET. Quite an eclectic mix, eh?
It was a PBS staple for decades and quite possibly the only place many people ever got to see a professional orchestra in performance. Sadly, it hasn't been presented in almost 20 years. Still, it remains a vital part of PBS history and a perfect example of the network's commitment to the performing arts.
So what was it? What's the title of that long-running concert series from WGBH featuring the Boston Pops Orchestra and special guests?
Think about it and I'll post the correct answer later.
