THINK TOGETHER
Have you ever dressed up like someone else to try and look like them?
READ TOGETHER
For the past couple of days, we've been looking at this verse:
2 Corinthians 3:18. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18 is one of my favorite Bible verses. Why? Because it explains our whole life with Jesus in one single verse. Also, it answers this one really big question - why did God save us?
Some might say God saved us so that we could go to heaven. And yes it is true we will go to be with God forever, and that is the final goal. But God saved us so that right now we would be like Jesus. Here's how the Apostle Paul says it – we all...are being transformed into the same image (as Jesus).
What this means is that when we become a Christian, when we receive Jesus as our savior, we start becoming like him. This is way more than just dressing up like Jesus. This is living like Jesus would live if he were here in the flesh with us. Like Jesus, we can reflect God and his love to the whole world. We can be kind like Jesus, and selfless like Jesus, and giving like Jesus, and compassionate like Jesus.
How? Because Jesus is living in our hearts reminding us that we are loved by God. And when you know you are loved BY God then you can love LIKE God. Not to earn God's love, but simply as a way of showing that you know God is with you no matter what.
Because of Jesus we are being transformed into his likeness.
With Jesus we can image God's grace and love just like Jesus did.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Take turns looking in the mirror. The mirror gives you an image of yourself. The mirror reflects what you do. We are the mirror image of God, reflecting what he does.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, I want to be like you. Thank you for living in my heart and for making it so that I can be like you and love like you. Amen.
