THINK TOGETHER.

Is there anyone you will love forever? Who?

Proverbs 3:3. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.

Today we are going to learn one of the most important Hebrew words in the Old Testament. The word is hesed. Can you say it? He (short vowel sound) – sed. And when you pronounce the 'H' you have to work up a bit of phlegm from the back of your throat. (Don't worry if you can't get it right, neither can I)

In Proverbs 3:3 the Hebrew word hesed is translated as the English words steadfast love. Sometimes hesed is translated as "mercy," "kindness." or just "love." Hesed is such an important word because it describes not just love, but God's love. Hesed is God's love for his people. His covenant love. His promised love. His steadfast (never changing) love. The love that can and will never go away. The love of God that always does what is good for us.

Because God is in a covenant with us he will always hesed us.

And that's the best news ever!

But how can we know that God will love us forever, no matter what? Because of Jesus. Jesus on the cross is God's hesed on display for us. And Jesus in our hearts is God's hesed living in our hearts. When we have Jesus we are in a covenant with God that can never, ever be broken. With Jesus, God will always love us. In fact, it is impossible for God to not love us. Why? Because it is impossible for God to not love Jesus his Son.

Because of Jesus God will always love us.

With Jesus we never have to wonder if God still loves us.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Help your kids to understand the idea of covenant by looking at wedding photos (yours or someone else's). Our covenants aren't perfect like God's, but we do make promises to love each other forever like God. And God never breaks this promise.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, I know God will love me forever because I have you in my heart. Help me to love others and be kind like you today. Amen.
