rain which did not fall
cold wears it almost-march coat
time to go soak feet
"Frigga's Day Presents Foggy River"
river of fog falls
across Sanford - our three lakes
help white stuff linger*
*(It started out only miserly, a meager fog bank barely filling the horizon from atop the 20th Street hill as I bike downtown. By 8 a.m., some 90 minutes past my first look, downtown is "socked-in" and I am relieved I got to the biblioteca early though the condensation made my usual "reading to pass the pre-opening hour" ritual a bit of a droplets-on-the-shoulder a bore, I persist. Long ago in another town not far from here I amused myself and a few barflies by taking a bar of soap out side and in a pounding rain, proceeded tp "wash" my tee shirt, take it off and rinse in the still-sluicing rain - no lightning or even far-away thunder - and return said "laundered" shirt to its rightful perch after a quick squeegee and toke up my usual small pitcher at Chooch's Pub, just a few hundred steps from the newspaper I called home: Titusville Star-Advocate. Across the street from the paper one of the few remaining Holiday House restaurants had its usual fare - I chose the Leg o' Lamb - sliced from the shank portion please - with the green beans and mashed 'taters' and for an added charge, spinach, collards or other greens. As usual, the butt4er-infused garlic mini-loaf was a delight. Before I settled the modest bill, I ordered "to go" a deep dish of blueberry cobbler - fresh! - with a real-bean vanilla ice cream complement...had I ordered it in situ (at the table) I'd have gotten a meager scoop of each and for the same price, a veritable dessert feast! Of course I did have to switch to a dry tee. Checked my mail and messages and banged out a few stories and decided it had been too long since I checked my other "office," so I ambled a few blocks to the ABC package-and-lounge and had a mug - with a full head of foam, thank you young lady: I had and still have no desire to treat a beer badly by insisting it not have a generous "head" and thus I was fortified for the coin-operated phone to ring asking for me. A local high school coach on the other end said word was I could be found at ABC or at Chooch's. I took my pen and notebook from its back-pocket rest and quickly copied the proffered news. Since I was both editor and reporter I congratulated myself on my adroitness. Now, if only it would freakin' RAIN!)
