50 World's Greatest Poems
So recently I am into reading poems and verses which are sometimes difficult to understand and sometimes straightforward. Poetry has been written on almost everything that exists around us. Poetry is something that is dream-like and yet thought-provoking.
Understanding classical poetry needs more than just reading them. To understand these poems, you need to know the context, inspiration, varying interpretations, and even criticism. Completing these 50 poems took a great deal of time because I need to see interpretations of each para through the internet. Hundreds of scholars dedicate their lives to these poems to take out the best of them. Merely reading these poems will not be good for the thoughts of such great writers.
Poetry is an art that keeps on evolving with time and is proof of impulsive temperament. I got to know different schools of poetry which to be honest went above my head. I read and understood this poetry for the sake of how beautifully it depicted nature, love, and even death.
The poems in this book started with a 14th-century writer and ended in the 20th century. So, you can see the difference in language, style, and context of poetry as you keep reading. Fairly enough this edition also provided footnotes to know the context and inspirations of those poems.
As I said earlier those poems are melancholy and very easy complete but if you need to understand these poems you need to dig deep and search through the internet. For some, it may be a tedious task and for some, it's a thing they wanted to do. Understanding these poems gives the real joy of reading them.
My Rating-5.0/5.0
Until next read, Happy Reading!!!
