What does it mean to ‘Cross the Threshold’? In the ‘Hero’s journey’ it is the 4th stage, a conscious decision to embark on a spiritual quest. But how often do we step thru a portal unwittingly – without preparation – drawn in perhaps by outside forces that have their own agendas – where we become pawns, fodder, bait, collateral damage, in the war for the human soul..? Humanity as a whole now stands at this Threshold, & the keys to crossing are Self-knowledge, Soul-control of our thinking, feeling & willing, & a clear recognition of the working of the Spiritual world, which includes adversarial, as well as helpful forces.
While some of us were entering into the Holy Nights on Christmas Eve, Pope Francis & the Vatican opened the 1st of 5 ‘Ancient Portals’ as part of a ‘Roman Catholic Jubilee ritual’, that dates back to 1300. Every 25 years the Jubilee Year ritual involves opening ‘Holy Doors’ - Porta Sancta - which are sealed shut by a wall of bricks, & are are literally torn down, & left open until Epiphany 6 January 2025. This Catholic tradition links to ancient Jewish Jubilee rituals which were initiated every 50 years. In those times, slaves were freed, & stolen land was returned to the original owners.
This un-bricking of the Porta Sancta is done in a very Masonic ceremony performed by the Pope - who strikes the sealed door with a special hammer to break the masonry, reciting prayers & invocations in a “rite of recognition.” The Pope takes the hammer made of gold & gilded silver with an ivory handle - & strikes the wall covering the Holy Door 3X’s - saying the prayer Deus qui per Moysem. While reciting the verses Aperite mihi portas iustitiae, ‘priestly masons’ continue the work of breaking open the cement covering the Door, to the chanting of the Psalm Iubilate Deo omnis terra. This is followed by processions of pilgrims who are allowed to pass thru the portal. Walking thru the Holy Door is associated with “receiving a plenary indulgence, which is the remission of temporal punishment due to sins already forgiven.” Does this medieval idea of a plenary indulgence take away a person’s human responsibility & authority over their own karma, putting it into the hands of an institution?
The 5 portals are:
St. Peter’s Basilica - built by Emperor Constantine to house the tomb of St. Peter. Was the 1st portal opened on 24 Dec. 2024 - St. John Lateran - originally a palace gifted by the Laterani family to Constantine, which he then donated to the Church around 313 AD.. It is the Cathedral of the Pope, called: "Mother and Head of All Churches" = Omnium Ecclesiarum Mater et Caput - the oldest basilica in the Christian world. To be opened 29 Dec. 2024 - St. Mary Major - Dedicated to the Virgin Mary - the largest Marian church in Rome emphasizing her role as the Mother of God (Theotokos). It houses a supposed relic of the manger, from the nativity. To be opened 1 January 2025 -
St. Paul Outside the Walls - Built to house the tomb of St. Paul the Apostle. To be opened 5 January 2025.
Let’s remember that the Tombs of Saints Peter & Paul are underneath the Vatican because they were both martyred there in Rome!
And the last portal is at Rebibbia prison near Rome !?! This is a first - a portal in a prison…To be opened on Epiphany 6 January 2025 (the anniversary of the insurrection at the White House by far-right extremists - the Proud Boys & the Oath Keepers)
Catholic churches around the world are also marking the Jubilee rituals by opening their own designated holy doors.
At the closing ceremony the Pope takes up the golden trowel & applies cement to the threshold of the Holy Door, & sets in place a ‘parchment document’(?) & some gold & silver coins - sealing them in with 3 bricks. Other bricks are added by the masons, to finish the work of walling up the Door, while the choir chants the hymn Caelestis Urbs Ierusalem.
So dear friends – keep an awakened awareness that these portals are being opened during our Holy Nights. We can tune into the 3rd of the 7 “I AM” statements by Christ to give us hopeful perspective: “I am the door” (John 10) This “I am” statement emphasizes that no one can rightly enter the kingdom of heaven except thru the door of true Freedom initiated by Christ as the Being of Love. Jesus’ words in this passage are revealed in the imagery of a sheepfold. It is thru The Christ, as The Door, that the human being can consciously enter the fold - not by some outside authority rule, but by opening the door of our hearts to the Christ impulse of love.

According to the original Calendar of the Soul by Rudolf Steiner TODAY is - The ‘slaying of the innocents’ by Herod – This Massacre is the biblical account of infanticide by the Roman-appointed King of the Jews. According to the Gospel of Matthew, Herod ordered the execution of all young male children in the vicinity of Bethlehem, so as to avoid the loss of his throne to a newborn King of the Jews whose birth had been announced to him by the Magi. In typical Matthean style, it is understood as the fulfillment of an Old Testament prophecy: “Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, ‘A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because her children are no more.’’

1856 – Birthday of Woodrow Wilson, 28th President of the United States. Rudolf Steiner speaks of his Arab incarnation as Muawiya & in many other lectures he exposes his imperialism.
1868 – Birthday of D.N. Dunlop, a Scottish entrepreneur, founder of the World Power Conference, & a theosophist-turned-anthroposophist. Dunlop led the anthroposophical “Human Freedom Group”, & introduced the idea of anthroposophical Summer Schools. Rudolf Steiner & Dunlop both expressed their intimate spiritual connection & respect for one another. In 1928 he organized the first & only World Conference on Anthroposophy & in 1929 he was elected General Secretary of the Anthroposophical Society in Great Britain. He had a great friendship with Eleanor Merry, who supported his work. Dunlop enlisted the help of fellow anthroposophist Walter Johannes Stein in the hope of founding a World Economic Organization, but his death prevented this. 1908 – The Messina earthquake shakes Southern Italy killing between 75,000 & 200,000 – See Rudolf Steiner’s lecture – The Deed of Christ and the Opposing Spiritual Powers: Earthquakes
1928 – Deathday of Count Carl W. von keyserlingk – Worked closely with Rudolf Steiner to bring about the birth of the Bio-Dynamic movement.
1969 – Deathday of Rudolf Hauschka, an Austrian chemist, author, inventor, entrepreneur & anthroposophist. He was the founder of the company Wala Heilmittel GmbH & inventor of a “rhythmic” production process that excluded the use of alcohol as a preservative of plant extracts & can preserve the extract for over 30 years. ‘Dr. Hauschka’ is the brand name given to the range of skin care & cosmetics made by the Wala company from his research 1973 – The Endangered Species Act is passed in the United States 1989 – Earthquake hits Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, killing 1113 people 2009 – 143 people die in a suicide bombing in Karachi, Pakistan, where Shia Muslims are observing the Day of Ashura 2010 – Arab Spring: Popular protests begin in Algeria against the government
