Down by the golden grasses where the Catalpa Trees grow tall & strong, the water on the pond is rippling. Brother Wind is breezing thru the urban Forest-preserve. He dances with the yellowing leaf beings, clustered with nut & pod, releasing them from the canopy; stirring past the busy Root Gnomes tending the vast interlocking connections between the earth & mineral kingdoms. ‘Autumn is here, Autumn is here,’ their collective song travels in a cooling gust. Little green Mossy hears their song from her domicile at the gnarled base of Grandmother Tree. She watches & listens. Yes, even the bright furry lichen knows it is time for birds to fly south, & for animals to gather the world bounty, building up a reserve, harvesting her mossy blanket for their Winter-tide nesting. Red Cap the Woodpecker hears the fairy song too. ‘Time to get to work,’ he says, as he tappity tap taps circular shacks in the fallen trees by the waters edge, for soon bugs & beetles will need Winter homes. Red Cap is pleased with the round welcoming rooms he is making at the Fallen Tree Inn. Under the Willow where sinewy branches sway low over the purling water, the fuzzy ducklings born last Spring are all sleak & fully grown now. They hear the Fae song too. They join in, cutting the air with their: quack, quack, quack. Already they scent the perfume of Autumn leaves that have fallen by the reeds clustered at the shore. Everywhere in the little forest glade at the edge of the highway they prepare for Autumn. Red Cap is the first to see Her - there - down by the pathway where the Beech Trees bow an archway to greet Her. There - Natura majestically strides; Her magicking cloak gathered round Her broad shoulders. How pleased She is that all is ready. Autumn has come to the city forest once again. She stands tall in the feathery prairie grass, & calls to her prodigy: ‘Come my Nature come! She opens Her cloak wide to give shelter to the seed children. ‘Here is your place to rest & sleep all winter long dear ones. I will keep you warm & well until Winter is gone, & my daughter Lady Spring comes to serve your new growth. Come, rest in my mantle.’ From everywhere - from the Milk-weed pods, from the Maple Trees, from thorny Hedges & fading Roses, from fruited Apple - the seed babies are gathered up by Brother Wind. He gently carries them to the generous lap of Natura. ‘Autumn is here, Autumn is here’, the elementals sing. They nestle in her warm cloak, tittering & threshing, lilting blithe to be in such a cozy diggs, as the days go cold & the dark takes hold. ‘Thank you Mother Autumn’, they say. Before long, they yawn, each in their turn, & settle down in their cradles, to dream their Spring & Summer yarns; ever listening for human beings, like you & me, to tell them a bedtime story of reverance & courage & , as they await their time to arise. ~hag Thanks to all who joined in for our Autumnal Equinox / Michaelmas Festival with Mysteria Mystica Americana (MA) Including special guests Michael Draskovic, & music & speech with Ultra-Violet Archer Here is the Link to our online Community gathering Here is a link to recordings of our past offeringsFarm Day & Michaelmas Festival at Zinniker farmSaturday 28 September 2024 – 1 pm Biodynamic Prep making -We will be focusing most of our activity on making Horn Manure Preparation (aka BD 500).
