You've seen the pictures, but that doesn't tell the story. So here is an attempt to describe how this trip made me feel and what the journey involved. Surprisingly the destination goal is often disappointing based on expectations prior to leaving home.
Before leaving I imagined a colorful festival in the streets with food, dancing and Native American arts everywhere to behold. That expectation was fulfilled, but the additional stress that heat and crowds added to the mix made it not quite as enjoyable.
But I am getting ahead of myself. Let's talk about the journey. Sante Fe is a two day drive from Palm Desert. This meant finding a stop over for one night coming and going. We stayed in Flagstaff before and saw how close it was to Sedona. So this time we planned on staying in Sedona. It is about halfway.
So now we had a second expectation of exploring the beautiful landscape surrounding this town in Arizona. The views did not disappoint us. But again back to the journey we must go.
We interrupt this post with other travel news. Our European Vacation has been cancelled. Our travel companion can't go due to developing health issues (wet macular degeneration) that could lead to blindness. So sad. Thank goodness we purchased trip insurance. Now I just have to figure out how it works.
We return you now back to our regularly scheduled program.
When the going gets tough the tough gets going. Before the trip we both got jury duty summons. Oh joy. We postponed them to tell our return. That ordeal begins Monday.
Then Ricky found out he had a cancerous growth on his leg. That got taken care of when we got back. Four stitches to close a crater in his right leg where the tumor or whatever a squamish is called was removed.
Our friend came to house sit while we were gone. More of a swatter, she came to use the pool and get away for a few days.
This meant a quick cleaning of the place and readying the guest room before we left. All to be done again upon our return. House work is never done.
So the trip came with a lot of baggage filling our heads, not to mention our solar company went chapter 11. We still don't have answers as to what is happening with our lease.
We hit the road bright and early stopping for breakfast at the summit just an hour down the road, Chiriaco. It's really just a big truck stop with a restaurant.
We went around Phoenix on the 303 loop up to the 17 and on to Sedona. The Oak Creek Canyon drive into town is beautiful.
We stayed in a lovely old motel. The next day we were off to Santa Fe.
This is running long so I will continue the story in my next post.
