Nothing is more satisfying than sitting down to a meal of Naan and Curry. Here's how to create the Naan bread.
Ingredients:
1 cup warm water
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Optional: melted butter or ghee for brushing
Directions:
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yogurt, vegetable oil, and yeast mixture.
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten into an oval or teardrop shape.
Heat a cast-iron skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden and puffed, brushing with melted butter or ghee if desired.
Serve warm.
