THINK TOGETHER.
What is the difference between a fact and an opinion?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 18:2. A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.
Do you know what a fact is? A fact is something that is true. It is something that you can know and prove.
Do you know what an opinion is? An opinion is something that you think or feel about something without being able to prove that it is true. Or an opinion is something you prefer over something else. It's not a lie. But it's also not truth.
Fact: Broccoli is a vegetable. Opinion: Broccoli is the best vegetable.
Fact: Toy Story is a movie. Opinion: The world would be a better place if everyone watched Toy Story.
Fact: I don't know everything. Opinion: Everyone should listen to me anyway.
People who go around saying their opinions, especially when they don't understand all the facts, are fools. People who expect everyone to agree with their opinions are fools. People who talk all the time without understanding are fools.
Wise people can tell the difference between a fact and an opinion. Wise people keep their opinions to themselves most of the time. Wise people try to understand the truth and learn more things, instead of acting like a know it all.
Jesus was wise. He always talked in facts not opinions. He didn't come to Earth to give his opinion about God, or about love, or about sin, or about Heaven. He came to help us understand the truth. He IS the truth! He is not the opinion. So talk about Jesus and be wise, because he is facts not lies.
Because of Jesus we can understand all the facts about God.
With Jesus we can try to learn more truth, not just have our own opinions.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Practice spotting opinions and facts together and learning the difference. Look at the TV news or social media. What is fact and what is opinion?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you are the truth! Help me to understand your truth more and more. Amen.
