Daily writing prompt
What do you listen to while you work?
1. Anything the store decides to play, when I'm designing. Not everything is awful, but a lot of music is, when it's played over and over. I work with a man who is also a conductor for the local youth symphony, and asked him one day if he was able to block it out. His answer was "absolutely never."
I voiced my displeasure over a certain version of Summer Breeze so many times, that a co-worker started weaving dialog to me through the tune, even messaging in the group chat to tell me the song was playing. hah. He'd never heard the original version, and afterward understood why I was displeased with the remake.
Now that Florida is under some kind of bizarre heavy-handed censorship our governor calls freedom, we didn't do much for Pride Month; instead the company played lots of bad disco and a ridiculous amount of Lady Gaga. I like her, so that part was okay.
2. Whatever I want, when I'm working in the back--so usually podcasts, or if doing a longer project, audio books. A friend who constantly interrupted me back there has gotten a new gig, so although that drove me crazy, I now miss having to continually restart whatever I was listening to. 🙂
When I worked from home, I almost never listened to anything, unless I was doing organizational busy-work type tasks. While writing, usually the only thing I could get away with was something instrumental playing in the next room. During Covid, I listened to an app that played the sound of a cafe', because I'd gotten so used to finishing my work in them--not starting nor working on anything, finishing only.
Then, I seem to like a bit of hoopla in the air.
