(1) Though the family reconciliation referenced in the previous gratitude list was short-lived, 1990 goes down in my personal history as the year I started playing at Gulliver's of San Francisco. For nearly ten years from September 1990 to April 1999, I sat on the same piano bench four nights a week and on every major holiday. If there's such a thing as a "stable music job," I'm one of the lucky players who at one time in his life actually landed one.
(2) At a time when human relationships seem largely problematical, it's great to have heard from my good friend Danielle in Georgia. None of us can be friends with everyone, so it stands to reason to be grateful for the friends we have.
(3) Due to a prolonged funk, I didn't run for twelve days. This morning I was hitting the roads at 5:30am in 53F degrees, perfect running conditions. Ran slowly and steadily, with discipline. Grateful for the gift of long distance running, and eager to get back onto my thrice weekly program.
(4) Ran into Dan the other day, the main guy at the School of Music who is trying to get my show produced in connection with the University here. He encouraged me that on one doubts the quality of my work, but it's a matter of logistics trying to get all the ducks in line. It could be a while, but I think I'm good hands with this guy.
(5) Working on my commission to sequence my song "Isolate" today, and got a hold of Cody and Ian for back-up male vocals. Also gotta do a piano track of She Used to be Mine from the musical Waitress for Tessa to sing. Nice to have constructive little projects going on, to help make the days worthwhile.
"Musicians don't retire. They stop when there's no more music in them."
-- Louis Armstrong
