Wow, this is a very good book. I saw a lot of people saying so late 2022 and in 2023 but it wasn't available for me at the time and I forgot about it until recently. I was surprised in retrospect that it didn't pick up more awards but it looks like it suffered from different regional release dates and, well, the 2023 Hugo Awards turned out not to be so great at identifying interesting works even on the longlist.

I've actually basically finished it but there's a lot to unpack with the book, in particular how it uses some really interesting approaches to the narration that makes it feel more experimental as a piece of writing while at the same time being quite a fast-paced fantasy epic which sends a couple of legendary heroes through a five-day epic quest to carry a god through a collapsing empire, fighting bad-guys repeatedly along the way.

I'll write a longer review soon.
