(1) I had thought my speakers were broken, which saddened me. The Dell computer speakers were bought for $5 at the thrift shop seven years ago, and have worked beautifully throughout that time. However, something told me that if I prayed about them, and then took the time to untwine all the wires and make sure the plugs and ports were secure, they would work again. I was so happy when they did.
(2) Slept well and solidly last night, deep REM sleep with dreams. Thankful not only for the good night's sleep, but for the fact that for the first time since Friday night, I remembered to prepare the coffee before bedtime. When all I have to do is flip a single switch, it's a lot easier to get to my morning spiritual ritual before my head has had a chance to fly anxiously in wild unhealthy directions.
(3) Though this morning's 1.8 mile run was the best running I've done since starting up again, and though I'm thankful to be getting into shape, I'm also thankful to have realized that the new shoes are what's causing the problem of my soles sometimes lingering too long on the ground. I had to get rid of the old Nike Airs because of a sudden loud squeaking the shoe person told me was irreparable. But they definitely had more spring. Glad to see "new running shoes" high on my list.
(4) Having my morning cup at home is the right thing to do, as opposed to packing up my stuff in a pre-caffeinated state and heading toward a cafe where unnecessary money will be spent. I won't give up cafes completely, due to their pleasant nature and the option to engage the community, but I found a far greater blessing in having a cup right away at my desk in solitude.
(5) I knew my neighbor across the hall was a nice person, but had not really had an in-depth conversation with her until last night. It turns out she and I have a great deal in common, even to the point of a dual ADHD and PTSD diagnosis, and taking one of the same medications--Buspirone--for PTSD. She also seemed to have a very similar worldview to my own, especially with respect to the local community. I feel like I have found a new friend.
"Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings."
