Visiting the forbears on a sunny afternoon
Everyone seems to be heading off to the northern hemisphere for holidays. I don't know whether it's much warmer there or not, but it's wretchedly chilly here. We've had lots of appointments of varying degrees of urgency and expectedness (or not) and a few catch-up lunches with old friends, as well as our year-long course of language lessons being shuffled around because the tutor came down with COVID. We have been busy. And, at least with regard to COVID, it's still around. And the frosty mornings will only increase in number for the foreseeable future. Brr.
YoungB is grimly hanging on at work, but recently regressed to childhood by participating in an all-day table-game tournament. His team came 5th out of 40, so plainly his strategic mind is working well. He's house-sitting (and cat-cuddling) on the other side of town for a few weeks, which means it's Very Quiet here and he is enjoying a different route to the city on his daily commute; but complaining that the mornings are cold. Yes, they are getting brisk.
We're muddling along, whatever the weather and wherever we happen to find ourselves. Recently, I found myself at the funeral of an old nursing colleague. Sadly, she wasn't very old at all. Those of us from the same training group and/or who had worked with her since then shared stories of her resilience and indomitable spirit in the face of crushing life blows. But the sun was shining.
I hope the sun is shining where you are, too.
