This Children's Season, the Children's Museum Singapore (CMSG) and the Museum Roundtable (MR) are teaming up to celebrate innovation and creativity. Running from May 25 to June 23, 2024, this year's festival invites young minds to explore a world of inventions through a series of exciting programs across 21 participating MR museums and galleries. In conjunction with the festival, CMSG will also debut a new hawker-themed exhibition titled "Into the Hawkerverse."
Launch of the Children's Panel
For the first time, CMSG has formed a Children's Panel in collaboration with The Artground, Singapore's first multidisciplinary children's arts center. This panel, comprising 15 children aged 8 to 12, is designed to give children a voice and creative input into the festival. The panel reviewed and selected four out of seven shortlisted works to develop into the festival's Signature Programmes. They will also take part in running the festival, including handling programme registration at select museums.
Signature and Partnership Programmes
The Signature Programmes for Children's Season 2024 include four interactive performances hosted at the Asian Civilisations Museum, CMSG, Former Ford Factory, and Singapore Maritime Gallery. Each performance is unique to its venue. For example, CMSG's "Oodles of Noodles" is a roving performance along Armenian Street where families help the main character Izzy invent new recipes. Participants will also create their own fusion laksa craft at the end of the trail.
At the Singapore Maritime Gallery, children can join a pirate crew on an adventure, learning about Singapore's maritime history.
CMSG has also partnered with various MR members to offer free Partnership Programmes, providing fun, innovative activities that align with the theme of innovation or complement the "Into the Hawkerverse" exhibition. For instance, the Eurasian Heritage Gallery will host cooking workshops where participants can learn to make traditional Eurasian dishes with chef Mary Gomes.
Into the Hawkerverse Exhibition
The "Into the Hawkerverse" exhibition aims to introduce children to Singapore's vibrant hawker culture. It features hands-on activities, multisensory exploration, and object-based learning across three galleries. Younger children can enjoy the Play Pot, a dedicated play space featuring a masak-masak area with a mee goreng pool.
Children's Season Stamp Booklet
The popular Children's Season stamp booklet activity returns this year. Families can visit any of the 21 participating MR members to collect unique stamps upon completing simple activities. Collectors who complete various milestones in their stamp booklets stand a chance to win exclusive Children's Season 2024 prizes.
