Exciting news for lovers of sideshow and the variety arts! The Sideshow Hootenanny (previously known as the Southern Sideshow Hootenanny), now celebrating its tenth year, and making its NYC debut! Fire eaters! Sword swallowers! Cooch dancers! Pierced and tattooed and otherwise "altered" beautiful people! And even a few of the genuinely "born different".
Ever since "the Hoot" (as it's lovingly known to its fans) came into being I've wanted to attend or even participate, but could never get it together to get down to New Orleans when it was happening. Now the Hoot is coming to Brooklyn. Ironically, I'm not sure I can get there this time either but I'm excited all the same. There will be an opening night show at the House of Yes tomorrow night, with the remainder of the proceedings happening at Coney Island USA through Sunday. Folks are coming from all over the country to perform and partake. Some of the folks presenting include Shocked and Amazed's James Taylor, Gin Minsky, Jelly Boy the Clown, The Pink Velvet Witch, and the famous "Patchwork Girl" Nati Amos, among many others. Three of the folks presenting in the Hoot (Adam RealMan, Glen Heroy, and the Lady Aye) will also be in our Surf Coney Island show on April 27).
And it's all organized by the hardworking Kita St. Cyr, who we've had the pleasure of working with many a time...notable in our original production of I'll Say She Is back in 2014. I mention that in particular because, coincidentally, today also happens to be the day that tickets for Marxfest 2024 go on sale! That's not until mid-May, but you'd better act fast if you want to attend that. Tickets to that are here.
And tix to the Hoot are here.
