It's been a long while since my last writing, and that's okay. I hope I haven't fallen out of touch and things will flow naturally like I haven't been gone.
It's been very busy in our life and home lately, and that's okay too. We're adjusting to a baby, a job change, and working through project after project. For those of you with children - grown or babies - you can probably relate to the ever changing schedule of your little ones. As a newborn they're up at all hours needing fed, and as they get older they'll start sleeping more regularly, and then that might even start changing again as the months go on. There are good moments, bad ones, happy tears, and times when you'll want to pull your hair out.
As I sit here writing this up and thinking about my beautiful wife and sweet six month old baby boy, I'm reminded of how life is oddly similar to a growing baby. Life is full of hard times and chaos, but it's also got those sweet moments where you've gotta hold on and never let go! We've got mountain tops too short-lived and valleys that seem to be never ending.
Though there may be craziness in your life, beauty is very much present. It may require you to change your mindset and look at things from another perspective, but there is indeed beauty in the midst of the storm. It may get better sooner or it might get worse later, we don't always know! Live in the moment, and appreciate what God's given you. Stop looking to the future or imagining how things used to be. Love those around you and forgive those who've hurt you. Life is too short to hold grudges and be a stuck up old woman. Life is far too precious to think your circumstances will never get better. Choose to love like Jesus regardless if you agree or not. Lead by example and press onward!
1 Timothy 4:15-16 says, "Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you."
Reading this, I have to admit that I felt a little convicted. I'm not perfect and I don't profess to be. There's things in my life that the Lord's working on and changing my heart about. God's been changing my perspective on hardships and helping me focus more on the things going on around me versus the problem I'm facing. He's been helping me watch my mouth - and I still mess up. He's been fixing my heart and helping me say no to certain people and things. The Lord's helped me and blessed me in so many ways, and I can't take credit for a single bit of it.
Sometimes we want or need people or circumstances to change when the real issue is our own heart and our own perspective. We might not agree with a certain person's beliefs or way of life, but God still commands us to love like Jesus. That doesn't mean we bash that person or keep harping at them does it? No of course not because that's not true love. "Love holds no record of wrongs..." We can even see this in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
We want things now, right away, or even yesterday. Psalm 46:10 even says, "He says, 'Be still, and know that I am God;'" Not all things will happen when we want them to, but we're still commanded to be content. Hebrews 13:5 says, "Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'"
If you're expecting others to change or to grow, maybe that's exactly what you need to do too - lead by example just like Christ is our example. Everyone is learning and going through life just like everyone else is. Some know Jesus as their Savior and others do not. Are you doing something to help them see and know Jesus, or are you expecting others to do it? Perhaps God's working on your perspective too.
