Cure For Boredom

April 29

 I get bored very easily.

The only way I made it through classes, meetings and yes, even church, was doodling or writing stories.   I loved it when classrooms had windows so I could look outside.  I needed more to occupy my brain than boring lectures.

I view the scripture "Be still and know that I am God" a little differently than some.  Physically moving helps my spirit be still.  Seeing the things God has created and finding joy in each one connects me more fully with God.

My father also loved observing life.  He saw God everywhere and taught me to look.  He often prompted me to look by saying, "Don't you have any curiosity?"

He once nudged me in church and leaned over during the preacher's long winded sermon.  I thought he was going to share some deeper revelation about the sermon.

But he said, "Look at that woman on the front row in the choir.  Look at how long her neck is.  Isn't it amazing how different God made each one of us!"

That was the best sermon that day.  I spent the rest of the time looking at all the different necks!

I sometimes get so bogged down by life I lose that desire to explore and look for the wonder.  If my father were here, he would say  — "Don't you have any curiosity?"

Fortunately I have a personal coach to remind me.  My Childhood 101 teacher is now four.

He is blessed to have a Mom who lets him refine his skills in exploration and share his lessons with me.

A couple of days ago our daughter sent me pictures of Gideon exploring various rocks.

Yesterday we FaceTimed as he showed me the treasure of the day, the feather of a crow.  He showed me how when you stroke it one way, the feather is smooth and when you stroke it the other way, it is rough.

Our daughter told me today that instead of picking a flower out of tall grass, she has encouraged him to let it grow, promising they can look frequently to see how it is doing.

They are God's Messengers to me.  How could I ever be bored when there is a world waiting right outside the door?

I need to go find some rocks and maybe a feather.

And I am sure there are some wild flowers calling too.  I need to see how much they have grown today!

The whole earth is filled with awe at Your Wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, You call forth songs of joy!

Psalm 65:8
