COME SIT
How often do we sit or set a table, whether it be for ourselves or for friends? A lovely table is just that, inviting and a joy to look at.
When JESUS sat at the table with HIS disciples to take communion, the men around that table must have wondered what the bread and the cup meant for them. They didn't truly understand just yet that the act of taking communion would be in remembrance of their SAVIOR. This act of taking communion continues today when the Body of Christ gathers together to remember......
1 CORINTHIANS 11: 24 "DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME."
The act of taking communion doesn't make you a Christian, no the act of communion draws us close to HIS table of mercy and grace........because we follow JESUS. And because HE loves us, HE draws us to this table now to remember with full hearts HIS sacrifice for us!
LORD, HELP US TO NEVER TAKE COMMUNION FOR GRANTED OR GO THROUGH THE MOTIONS.
Because the taking of communion is a sacred moment shared with those around us to remind us why we are gathered together in the first place. And in this, may we remember to do this as scripture commands.......
1 CORINTHIANS 11: 28 "A MAN OUGHT TO EXAMINE HIMSELF BEFORE HE EATS OF THE BREAD AND DRINKS OF THE CUP."
Examine and confess........then submit and worship. JESUS is alive! What a gift JESUS left us in communion!
Let's remember then that JESUS invites us to sit at the feast of the LAMB in this life because of the feast of eternity.
REVELATION 19:9 "BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO ARE INVITED TO THE WEDDING SUPPER OF THE LAMB."
JESUS provides and sustains us in this life and the life to come. HIS table of communion welcomes us, celebrates hope and causes us to look to the future, when we will sit down with our LORD at that great eternal table and sin and tears will reign no more.
REVELATION 19: 6-7 "HALLELUJAH! FOR OUR LORD GOD ALMIGHTY REIGNS. LET US REJOICE AND BE GLAD AND GIVE HIM GLORY! FOR THE WEDDING OF THE LAMB HAS COME, AND HIS BRIDE HAS MADE HERSELF READY."
