Dear Ella
I know you are not in France this week and can't be held responsible for everything that happens there, but honestly – Pumpkin Soup?
Given our conversation the other week about looking at the bigger picture, it seems to me that the idiots who threw pumpkin soup at the Mona Lisa as part of a protest against food waste – might have thought for just a minute.
That soup could have been put in a tin and deposited in a food bank.
The money wasted on cleaning the glass frame in front of the Mona Lisa sat could have been used to buy bread, and the time and cost of prosecuting the dolts who threw the soup in the first place, could have been used to help distribute the food to those that need it.
There is something self indulgent in the pomposity, arrogance and self righteousness of people who take extreme measures to make a point. We see it time and again. Those against slave traders denying free speech and destroying public monuments. Climate Extinction activists who think it is acceptable to hold up ambulances and risk lives. And at the very extreme, in Palestine, freedom fighters (or terrorists depending on your point of view) who think using an entire population as a human shield is justified in the name of their particular cause.
Where does it say I have a right to destroy your peace, health or safety to broadcast my feelings?
Oops - I think I've just gone off on one again. Sorry. How's it going in Vietnam by the way!
Love
Fiona
