// The women's soccer team (7-4-2 overall, 4-3-1 league) continues their successful season throughout the winter.
The Dons kicked off December with a five game winning streak, starting with a 4-0 win against Pittsburg High School on Dec. 6. Two days later, they defeated Oakland Tech with a score of 7-0.
On Dec. 11, the team had another dominant 8-0 win against Deer Valley, and on Dec. 12 they got a close win of 1-0 against Benicia. They continued their winning streak with a great win of 8-0 against Berean Christian.
Their trend of success took a pause on Dec. 22 when they tied 2-2 with one of their toughest competitors Las Lomas and lost on Jan. 9 against Clayton Valley. The Dons came back and defeated Concord High School 10-0 on Jan. 11.
On Jan 13, the team then competed in a highly anticipated game against Campolindo. Although they put up a fight, the Dons were defeated 1-0. With the harsh weather and Camplindo's defense, they were not able to achieve the result they wanted.
"The rain and wind was definitely a big factor in how we played. Instead of playing our usual pass and build-up, we had to continuously send the balls through to our wingers to avoid their middle-block. We had a couple chances where we broke past their backline but ultimately, we couldn't finish them," senior Megan Yee said.
The team is working hard to adapt to changes in their roster and learn to play cohesively after losing some of their players.
"I think our biggest struggle so far has been injury. We have a couple players battling injuries from club and pre-season but we are hoping to have them back soon. We have had some Junior Varsity players step up to play with us, which I am extremely grateful for. It's been a bit of an adjustment," Yee said.
Against College Park on Jan. 16, the team was successful in beating them 3-0. The Dons believe hard work and good team chemistry has contributed to their many victories.
"We are blessed to have a very strong group of players, beyond just their play on the field. This group has really come together as friends off the field, which is a big credit to the work our captains and seniors have put in to make sure every player feels welcomed," coach Nick Barbarino said.
As the season continues, they hope to continue their success through their next games, hoping to give good results in the North Coast Section (NCS) playoffs. "I think our collective goal this season is to win the league and possibly even NCS. We were close to winning NCS last year and we hope to surpass our past records" Yee said.
