// As the end of the season approaches, the men's basketball team (7-16 overall, 2-7 league) reflects positively on their progress and looks forward to success in the coming years.
The Dons recently traveled to San Diego for the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic tournament. They went 2-2 with victories against Ramona and Vista High School and losses against Santa Fe Christian and San Juan Hills High School
While players have not received the results they have hoped for, many are still thankful for the opportunity to play.
"It hasn't been what we've hoped it to be; we've dropped a couple of games we could've won, but just being with the team, getting better every day, it's still a great experience, even if the scoreboard doesn't always reflect what we want, it's still been an overall positive experience," senior Liam Krackeler said.
By fighting till the very end, the team has been able to overcome challenges and persevere.
"I think the chemistry is number one. I'm so proud of these guys, our record is … not what anyone wants. But they have stuck together, they continue to stick together, and we will stick together, so that's just been really inspiring," Head Coach Bill Powers said.
As the season ends, the seniors prepare to depart and reflect positively with the hands the program is left in.
"I spent four years in this program and couldn't be happier with the younger guys we're leaving it to. There's some great guys younger than me who are giving as much as they can to the program, some great leaders, great players and just some great guys. I couldn't feel better about leaving the program to them," Krackeler said.
Regardless of early season setbacks, the Dons hope to put prior struggles behind them and look for success in the future.
"I think this team makes people proud; this team makes me proud. So I think there will be more success in regards to the record and our ability to potentially win a league championship. I think the future is bright," Powers said.
