Every now and then our choir gets to go on a jolly. Obviously we do lots of gigs locally but every now and then they throw in a blinder. This year so far there have been three absolute blinders. It's obviously the Chinese year of the blinder.
America for instance. Anyone fancy singing at Carnegie Hall? WHAT!?!?! YES!!!
Nope. I'm not going on that trip as it's, as you'd imagine, quite an expensive jolly and I couldn't justify that amount of money on a 5 day trip with the choir when Hubster and I could go on a very nice cruise for two weeks for the same amount. Ah well.
After the New York trip they announced that they were hiring a theatre in our home town and 1500 choir members from around the whole of the south west would be coming for a giant sparkly sing song. WOWZERS!!! I'M UP FOR THAT!!!!
Nope. It falls the day after we set off on our first proper holiday for eleven years. The two day cruise in October was a taster, not a holiday. I was gutted not to be able to attend the giant, sparkly sing song but a two week cruise isn't a bad consolation prize.
Then choir announced that we had been invited to sing at the Edinburgh Festival. YES!!!!
Can I go? YES!!!! SQUEEEEEEEE!!!!
Spaces are limited though so it was first come, first served on registration. The registration form came out and both Nymphadora Wellposh and I were waiting impatiently at our computers for the email to arrive. Ping! There it is! We were both lucky enough to get a place and even luckier that our close group of friends at choir did too.
I duly booked a hotel and flight. Now at this point I have to tell you that Nymphadora isn't a good flyer. In fact she's terrified and was hoping we'd all go on the train. Having established that the train took at least 9.5 hours as opposed to one hour on a plane and that it was also cheaper to fly she reluctantly agreed that she would fly with the group rather than take the train on her own. It's a no brainer.
This morning (I'm actually getting to the point now) I phoned British Airways to say that one of our party was disabled and would need support at the airport.
They could not have been more helpful. There will be a person waiting for us when we arrive at the airport to get them to the plane. They will be taken on a lift to the aircraft door so they don't need to climb the steps and then we'll be met at the other end to do the whole process in reverse. That will automatically happen on the return flight as well. Isn't that amazing? Ok. You probably already knew that all this support was in place but I didn't. This is going to make the journey so much easier and less stressful of all of us, not just Nymphadora.
So, BA, In the Chinese year of the blinder you have actually pulled a blinder! Bloody well done British Airways.
