List five things you do for fun.
- I love a long walk in nature, and if you throw in a friend who also loves nature and doesn't feel silly about long periods of silence and just noticing, that's all the better!
- I love a real conversation, especially when combined with the first item. A real conversation is undefinable, but you know when you've had one. I'm not especially verbal, so if someone is patient with me, that's all my Christmases.
- I love to cook. I probably wouldn't be cooking after our long walk, but if I knew a friend was coming, and knew that friend was up to try new things, I might cook something the day before. All my new recipes are vegan, and a lot of them are at least a little spicy!
- I love to write about the time we spent, and would try to do that before bed, but more than likely it would be first thing in the morning. These days I glance at my computer to see the Daily Prompt even before coffee.
- I love to travel. There's some nice freedom about wandering alternate places, seeing things that are similar to familiar settings, but aren't. I even love the process of travel, mostly... people watching in airports, eating candy I wouldn't eat any other time, finally finishing that book I bought, etc.
The truth is, lots of things are fun in good company, even drudgerous tasks, and as a friend tells me, I'm a bit of a dork. So I find lots of ordinary things fun. I probably find more things fun than not. Like, organizing and reorganizing what doesn't even need organizing. Like, bold blue Pilot G2 pens, and hunkering down to finish a book in one day. Like, watching shows with subtitles and films that make me cry. Like, meditation and thought-experiments that disorient me for days. ... ... ...
Even things I don't find fun, I can usually find fun things about, or make them into games of a sort, or if I can't, I try to look to the good feeling I'll have when I've finished. Driving to the airport in rush-hour traffic yesterday wasn't exactly fun, but accomplishing that was.
If given the chance, I'd love to stay home from work and keep doing this all day, but I'll get up and start to play with outfits, set the stage for the unexpected. I'll have a snack, listen to a little something on the way to work. If I really need to make it fun because the pull of this cozy nest and snuggly dog is too great, I'll reach for a fun song.
Sometimes it's Barbra.

But K-pop and C-pop are really good for this. I really love the vibe of the chorus of this song, although it took me a long time to give this genre a chance:

I couldn't find the following video with lyrics, but the song is about how the child next door may be so much more talented, but she'll do her best anyway!

The thing is to have range. 🙂
