Isaiah 40 offers comfort

The 40th chapter of Isaiah opens with the comforting proclamation, "Comfort, comfort my people, says your God" (Isaiah 40:1). These words offer reassurance for weary hearts, reminding us of God's closeness and care during our trials. The chapter goes on to depict the grandeur and authority of God, who holds the waters in the hollow of His hand. He even weighs the mountains on a scale. Can't you just see it?

Imagery like this serves as a powerful reminder of God's unmatched strength and dominion over all creation. It encourages us to place our trust in His sovereignty and take refuge in His unchanging character. In the midst of a chaotic world, Isaiah 40 urges us to lift our gaze heavenward. We draw comfort from the enduring nature of God's promises. It inspires us to rely on His power, for those who put their hope in Him. They "will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary" (Isaiah 40:31). What beautiful imagery.

God's paintings

Bet you didn't know God was a painter, did you? I think he is because of the beautiful pictures he painted in the Old Testament. After reading this section I was reminded of all the other passages of scripture that paint pictures of God in action. I've decided to add a section to this blog that includes these verses. It will be called, God's paintings. Picturing God holding the oceans, seas, and rivers in his hands, strengthens my faith in a way other passages can't.

It's one thing to read words that speak of his strength; it's another thing altogether to visualize it. Seeing his power does more for me than reading about it. Truly, it is a case of "A picture is worth a thousands words."

I'm always surprised when I talk to other Christians and learn they don't read the Old Testament because they say it was written for the Jews. Well, to that, I say, talk to Jesus about that, seeing as he referenced the Old Testament often, as did the disciples. The beautiful language of the Old Testament is not repeated in the New except in Revelation.

Assurance of God's presence

The passage from Isaiah 40:1 provides a comforting reminder that even in the midst of adversity, we are not left to face our challenges alone. It emphasizes the presence of God, who offers comfort and support during our most trying times. This message brings profound reassurance, as it speaks to the profound care and compassion that our Heavenly Father has for each one of us.

In moments of distress, the knowledge that we are held in the embrace of a loving and caring God can bring a deep sense of peace and comfort. It is a powerful source of encouragement, reminding us of the enduring and unfailing support that we have in our faith.

During challenging times, the comforting embrace of a compassionate and loving God serves as a beacon of hope. He guides us through the storms of life.

In tough times, that's when our faith really gets put to the test. But it's also when we sense God's presence even more. This deep sense of his presence helps us get through tough times. Remembering that we're never alone and that God's love is all around us lifts mood and strengthen our determination.

The power of God's Word

man flexing his muscles/Isaiah 40

The verse in Isaiah 40:8 emphasizes the transient nature of earthly things, such as the withering grass and fading flowers. It contrasts them with the enduring permanence of God's Word. This powerful declaration resonates strongly in a world constantly in flux, where uncertainties abound and changes occur without warning.

Because of the unchanging nature of God's Word providing a steadfast and unwavering foundation, we can find stability and certainty in difficult times. Thinking about the promises in the Bible can give us strength and hope. The Bible offers guidance and wisdom, like an anchor in life's storms. By seeking God's guidance in the Bible, we can find comfort, encouragement, and renewed strength to handle life's changes.

The verse from Isaiah reminds us that despite the shifting tides of life, the eternal truth and promises of God's Word remain unaltered.

By anchoring ourselves in this unchanging truth, we can find unwavering strength. We can find hope, enabling us to journey through life's uncertainties with confidence and resilience.

Strength of God's sovereignty.

The verses from Isaiah 40:12-14 beautifully convey the awe-inspiring vastness and power of our Creator. God's supremacy is painted as the one who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand. The One who marked off the heavens with a span. This imagery evokes a sense of wonder at the magnitude of God's creation and the unfathomable depths of His wisdom and understanding.

It's truly humbling to contemplate the boundless majesty of the universe over which He reigns. It encourages us to find solace and strength in the acknowledgment of God's sovereignty. During moments when we are confronted with overwhelming circumstances we feel hope. Imagine God holding the oceans, seas, and rivers in his hands. Don't you find it easier to trust in His magnificent plan you when you have these pictures in your head?

Isaiah 40: Renewal of strength

"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."

Perhaps one of the most well-known verses in Isaiah 40 is verse 31: "But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." When we place our trust in God and patiently wait on Him, He will renew our strength and equip us to face any obstacle.

Just as eagles soar effortlessly in the sky, we too can rise above our circumstances when we rely on God's power. This timeless message of hope and endurance has resonated with people for generations. It serves as a source of inspiration, reminding us that with faith and perseverance, we can overcome life's challenges and emerge stronger than ever. When we meditate on the imagery of soaring on wings like eagles, we are encouraged to hold onto the unwavering promise of God's faithfulness that comes from trusting in Him.

If you are recovering from foot surgery as I am, this sounds really good. I can't wait till I can at least walk like an eagle.

Concluding with hope from Isaiah 40

Isaiah 40:28-31 concludes with an invitation to find hope in the Lord: "Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength." No matter our age or stage in life, we are susceptible to weariness and exhaustion. However, when we turn to God and place our hope in Him, He promises to sustain us and give us the strength to press on.

This chapter offers a powerful message of comfort, strength, and renewal. It reminds us that even in the midst of life's challenges, God is with us, His Word is eternal, and His power is limitless. By trusting in His sovereignty and patiently waiting (something I'm not very good at) on Him, we can find the strength to overcome obstacles and walk with renewed purpose. Take to heart the words of Isaiah 40 today and allow them to inspire us to seek God's presence, meditate on His Word, and find our strength in Him.

If you've never read Isaiah 40, do yourself a favor and do it today.

God bless you..

How freedom showed up in my life. Lessons learned.

A long time coming Freedom in Christ has been a long time coming for me. I think one of the reasons is that I grew up feeling responsible for everyone around me. If they weren't happy, I wasn't happy. It didn't matter if they were family or not, although family was always dominant. When a person… Read more: How freedom showed up in my life. Lessons learned.

When God frees us, are there restraints?

When God frees us, it's in many ways. Freedom from sin When God frees us it's because we have come to a place in our life where we realize that we are still in a prison of sorts. For me, that prison was one of people-pleasing and always worried I might hurt someone's feelings. It… Read more: When God frees us, are there restraints?
