THINK TOGETHER.
Have you ever helped take care of a baby? What did you have to do for them?
READ TOGETHER
John 1:14. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Yesterday we said that Jesus is the Word of God. Or we might say it this way – Jesus is the Wisdom of God. God's wisdom is not just a book full of proverbs, it is the person of Jesus.
That's exactly what John is telling us in today's verse. The Word (Jesus) became flesh (he became a human being) and dwelt (lived) among us. That's Christmas! At Christmas the baby Jesus was born. When the baby Jesus was born, it was no ordinary birth. It was the Son of God, the living Word of God, becoming a person in order to live with us and save us.
And that's wisdom. That's God's wisdom.
Some people might think that this all sounds very foolish. Why would anyone leave Heaven, a place where you have everything, a place where you are God himself, and go to Earth? Why would anyone not only eave Heaven behind, but also become a human with a body? A baby's body. A helpless baby that has to be fed, and changed, and protected, and taught how to do everything. Does that sound like wisdom to you, or does that sound foolish?
So why did Jesus do it? Why did he become flesh? Why did he become a person, a baby person? So that we could see the grace and truth of God. His truth – we need a savior, a substitute to rescue us. His grace – we have a savior, Jesus substituted for us on the cross.
Jesus our savior is God's wisdom. And trusting Jesus to be your savior is the wisest thing you can do.
Because of Jesus we can be wise and trust God's grace and truth.
With Jesus we have a savior that took our place.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Look at baby pictures together. What makes a baby so helpless? Was it wise for Jesus to become a helpless baby? Why or why not?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, what you did for us may seem foolish to some, but it is the wisest thing ever. Help me to be wise and trust you as my savior. Amen.
