The Best of Times and the Worst of Times—The Contractions of a Birth
1. Like Isaac, God will answer our prayers—they are the only way forward:
(Genesis 25:21 NKJV) Now Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
As we pray, God is drawing people to himself—bringing them to his new birth so they can be born into his family.
2. Like Isaac, God is giving us supernatural births—but they will struggle between their old and new nature:
(Genesis 25:22 NKJV) But the children struggled together within her; and she said, "If all is well, why am I like this?" So she went to inquire of the LORD.
As we pray for people on our prayer lists, like Rebekah's pre-born babies, they will struggle. But in our case, the struggle will be between their old nature and the new nature that God wants to birth them into. We must keep praying through this struggle until those we are believing for surrender to God. Remember, they will be forever grateful.
3. Like Isaac, God will provide for us through sowing and reaping
(Genesis 26:1, 6, 12 NKJV) There was a famine in the land ... {6} So Isaac dwelt in Gerar. ... {12} Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him.
The circumstances in which Isaac found himself couldn't stop the covenant. He sowed and reaped when the outward state of affairs were against this being possible. Our reaping from what we sow now in this time is not based on inflation, shortages, unfavourable weather, supply chain issues, or the world's financial system; it's based on a covenant with almighty God in which he has promised with an oath:
(Hebrews 6:14 NKJV) saying, "Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you."
You cannot mock God in this; we always reap what we sow:
(Galatians 6:7 NKJV) Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
What Have We Learnt?
- God will Protect You—even though you feel like live bait
- God will provide for you—you will reap 100-fold despite famine
- God will answer your prayers for salvations
- Never give up on sowing and expecting to reap
REMEMBER: In God, you cannot be cornered or locked in, so:
- Keep your eyes on Jesus
- Remember his promises
- Obey his instructions—exactly
- Keep praying for family, friends, and enemies to be saved
- God is moving in answer to your prayers today
