The Alternative
by Dawn Pisturino
I watched you mount your chestnut horse with dignity and grace.
Sitting proudly in the saddle, your boots snug in the stirrups,
You held the reins with your right hand,
The riding crop with your left.
My heart cringed at the sight of that handsome face.
Brown hair curling under a tall hat,
Crisp white lace at your throat,
Your dark eyes shone in the afternoon light,
And you reminded me - once again -
That you were off to see your mistress,
Though left unsaid.
My husband - my Lord - my benefactor -
A cruel master indeed.
The Marquis de Sade
Tortured his victims with whips
To achieve gratification. . .
Please go HERE to read the rest of the poem. And, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Have a wonderful day!
