THINK TOGETHER.
Have you ever been in danger?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 27:12. The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.
A little toddler will wander off into the street without thinking. Why? Because they are simple. They don't think first. They don't know better. They want to do what they want to do. For all these reasons they fail to see the danger that is coming like a car that might be driving down the street.
Older children are more prudent (wise). They have been taught to look both ways before crossing the street. They know which streets are too busy to play near, and which ones are safer. They know how to get out of the way of moving cars so that they don't get hit. They can see danger and hide themselves.
This proverb is also meant to be true spiritually. The simple person can't tell when something will lead them into sin. But the prudent Christian can see that the path they are on is dangerous and so they know how to hide from that spiritual danger.
In the New Testament we are told that the Devil is our spiritual enemy. He is like a lion trying to eat us up (not literally, he's actually an invisible spirit). He is liar who wants us to stop trusting Jesus. He is an accuser that wants us to always feel guilty. What should we do? We should be wise and hide from the Devil's tricks. We should run away from any situation that will cause us to fall into his traps. Situations that keep us from trusting Jesus. Can you think of any of these tempting situations in your life?
When we run from the Devil we don't just run aimlessly, we run TO Jesus. We hide in Jesus. That's wisdom. That's prudence. Trusting Jesus just like we trusted our parents when they told us not to go into the street because it was dangerous. How can you learn to run to Jesus when you are in danger of being tempted?
Because of Jesus the Devil can never destroy us, even though he can hurt us at times with his temptations and lies.
With Jesus we can always be wise and escape temptation.
