THINK TOGETHER
What is something you believe in even though you can't see it?

Do you remember the story of Moses on Mount Sinai? Not the one where he gets the Ten Commandments from God. The one from Exodus 33 where he goes up the mountain and asks God to see his glory. "Show me your glory," he prays. And God says, "No one can see my face and live." In 2 Corinthians Paul wants us to remember that story when he says these words to the Corinthian church:
2 Corinthians 4:6. For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Before Jesus came to earth as a person, God said that no one could see his face and live. His glory was just too much to look at. Seeing God's face would literally kill you. But in Jesus we have seen the face of God. How? Because Jesus IS God, isn't he? Those who saw Jesus saw God. Jesus once said, "If you have seen me you have seen the Father."
Now you might be thinking about how sad it is that you've never seen Jesus. None of us living today have seen the face of Jesus. We don't even have paintings of him. But we have something even better. We have Jesus in our hearts. We might not be able to see God's glory with our eyes, but we can see it with our hearts – God...has shone in our hearts.
But what does that mean? It means we are able to believe in things that we can't see. Like eternal life. Like heaven. Like love. In the Bible this is called faith. Faith is trusting even when we can't see. Faith is seeing with our hearts instead of our eyes. Faith is knowing that Jesus is always with us and always loving us even though we can't see him. Faith is loving others even when they don't always love us back. Faith is knowing that no matter what we will end up with God in heaven. When we see with faith we are seeing the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Because of Jesus God's light is shining in our hearts.
With Jesus we can understand the things of God.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Do you have any special glasses like 3-D glasses or even sunglasses? These gasses allow us to see what we normally can't see. That's what faith does too.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, because you live in my heart I can now understand things that I can't see with my eyes. Help me to believe you even though I can't see you. Amen.
