I've had an amazing week gold-digging into the Spirit of Knowledge. Knowledge is so much more than knowing facts or how to do things. What we call knowledge is elementary compared to what the Spirit of Knowledge delivers. Ready or not, here we go.
First off, we refer to the verses we are unveiling. Isaiah 11:1-2.
A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
We've found that each of these lamps in the Lampstand are spirits that reveal a part of who Yeshua is to us. And the work of Holy Spirit is also evident in each one.
We've found that there are three pairs of lamps in the Lampstand. And each lamp is an aspect of the Spirit of God found in Christ. The reason they are paired is because they complete each other. Both are needed for the fullness God intends for us. And today we are going to begin with the Spirit of Knowledge—the first of the last pair.
Knowledge in this scripture is Strong's #1847. But we will explore the root of this word #3045 and in Hebrew it looks like this יָדַע
The Strong's definition is broad: to know, to perceive, see, find out, discern, discriminate, know by experience, recognize, consider, acquainted with, knowledgable, wise, to make oneself known, to know a person carnally, to reveal oneself.
Intimacy can also be added to this list as #3045 is found in Genesis 4:1 -- Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain...
But, let's look at the letters and see what we can find.
Yod 10 = The outcome or completion of something. Means: Hand, Right Arm, Power, Right hand of God's power, a Deed Done, To Work, to Cover, Allow, Hollow, Open Hand
Dallet 4 = Earth or creation. Means: Door, Gate, Impoverished man, to come from indicates a pathway, a place of decision, or an entrance to life or death.
Ayin 70= Completion of time. Means: Eye, to See, Understand, Experience, or to be Seen, Window of the soul-good or bad (made of a Zayin and Yod—Word and Spirit)
When we put these letter meanings together we can say:
KNOWLEDGE is God working with His right hand of power. He helps us see, understand, and experience Him and His will, by the Word and by the Spirit. Through this KNOWLEDGE, He leads us to the death of self and life in Him.
This is much more than going to a class, listening to a lecture, or reading a book. Through these practices, we can come away knowing something about the subject. But we won't know the subject until we've had experience with it over time.
When I volunteered in Israel, I kept a journal and later passed the notes on to those who supported my trip. One of the people had a neighbor who was Jewish, who lived in Jerusalem. Her neighbor asked to see my journal notes. My friend loaned her the notes and was surprised by her neighbor's comment after reading them. "I want to know God like that," she said.
This was a woman who lived in Jerusalem and knew the Old Testament backward and forward. But the journal notes I wrote of my conversations with Abba and how He interacted with me was something she didn't know. She knew about God but didn't know Him. My heart aches for her and so many others.
In Psalm 103:7 David wrote, "He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel." Moses knew Abba, Israel only knew about Him.
The Spirit of Knowledge is an ability to know God as we've never known Him before. It is the ability to see from His perspective, to discern truth from lies without effort. It is to experience having the mind of Christ. The Spirit of Knowledge is crucial for the season we are in.
Job 22:21 says, "Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace; Thereby good will come to you.
And 2 Peter 1:2-4 confirms Job's words. Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
I am going to continue with scripture. They speak loud and clear about the Spirit of Knowledge. They reveal its importance to Yahweh and its importance to us, and our walk with Him.
Jeremiah 9:23-24 gives us God's perspective:
Thus says the Lord:
"Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight," says the Lord.
Then we hear from Yeshua in John 17:3.
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
We just saw in the definition of Knowledge that it leads to death to self and life in God—eternal life.
Paul also wrote about Knowledge and its value.
Ephesians 1:17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him…
Ephesians 3:17-19 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Philippians 3:8-10 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death…
And how about Daniel? In Daniel 11:32 it says, Those who do wickedly against the covenant he (the enemy) shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.
When we know God through the Spirit of Knowledge, we know Him by experience. We are better equipped to know His will. We are also connected with the One who knows everything. He has the solution for every problem and the answer for every question. We know how to speak and act in every situation. Faith in Him and His covenant help enable us to do mighty things with Him. Knowing Him builds our trust in Him and our obedience increases as a natural outflow.
We are heading into rough waters as a nation but as the Spirit of Knowledge leads us, we will walk in strength and without fear to do God's will. David did. Joshua did. Paul did. And of course, Yeshua did. We have a wonderful adventure ahead of us as we walk in truth, doing His will.
Next time we will look at the Spirit of the Fear of the LORD. I am sure there is much to learn.
Shalom
