The mountains and the forest close off the sky.
Just a little patch of blue high above me.
It is warm. It is spring. The rains will come.
I am drowning on air.
-
The stars are endless at night.
Endless bands and clouds of white
Against the eternal and cold black.
Stars are kind by being indifferent.
-
Bathing naked in the frigid river.
Like mother, like father; Adam and Eve.
Shivering body doesn't feel heartbreak.
Shivering body only wants to keep warm.
-
When I walk in town, they don't know,
And I am face blind to their smug eyes.
Mother, I hear her voice in dreams,
And I am choking on tears when I wake.
-
Their is a lover here, for me.
We dance to a Bible thumping station,
To the staccato rage of the preacher's voice
Like it was a Mozart nocturne.
-
Even as they kiss me, hold me,
I remember Mother, and home.
Of Mother stroking my cheek,
As they stroke my cheek.
-
I drink cold, black tea,
And wait for the stars.
They ask nothing of me.
They are cold, honestly.
