THINK TOGETHER.
Who are your best friends?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 13:20. Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
One of the most important decisions who can make in life is your choice of friends. Who you hang around, admire, spend time with, do things with, will have a great impact on your life. Solomon calls friends, companions here in today's proverb. And he uses the word walks to mean living side by side as friends. He says that your friendships will either make you wise or foolish. Why? Because we become like our friends.
Therefore, one of the wisest things you can ever do is choose wise friends. Friends who fear the Lord. Friends who love Jesus. Friends who want to do the right thing. Friends who won't lead you into trouble, but will lead you into goodness.
So, who are your best friends? Are they wise? Do they know Jesus? Do the love God? Do they want to be kind? What are you learning from your friends? How are they impacting you?
Oh, and what kind of friend are you? Do you lead people toward Jesus or away from him?
On the night that Jesus died on the cross, when he was gathered with his disciples to eat the Passover meal, he told them that they were no longer his servants, but his friends. Jesus is the best friend any of us could ever have, and the Holy Spirit is our greatest companion. The wisest thing we could ever do is walk with Jesus. When you notice who else wants to walk with Jesus, choose that person to be your friend, and walk together with them next to Jesus. Learn how to live a wise life, a life of faith and love from him. I promise you, if you let Jesus be your best friend and guide you will never regret it.
Because of Jesus we are always walking with the wisest companion of all.
With Jesus we always have a best friend.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Plan to spend time with friends. Pay attention to how you influence your friends and how they influence you.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you are my best friend. Keep teaching me how to be wise, and kind like you, and help me to trust you more when I fail along the way. Amen.
