THINK TOGETHER.
How much money do you have? How did you get this money?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 10:2. Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death.
There are many ways to get money. Some of them are righteous, and some of them are wicked. Can you think of any righteous ways to get money? Can you think of any wicked ways to get money?
Besides getting money through wicked ways, Solomon also wants us to think about how important getting money is to us. When all we care about is getting more money it does not profit. Or, in the end it is bad for us, not good for us. Why? Because chasing after money just makes us more selfish and more greedy.
Jesus said it this way, "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." If your treasure is money, or stuff, or more clothes or games, then that is what our heart loves the most. The problem is that these things don't love us back, like Jesus does. Only Jesus can forgive us, and care for us, and change us for the better. Not money, and not things. Jesus wants us to love him more than anything else, and when we know how much he loves us, even enough to die for us, then we can begin to love him as our greatest treasure.
Because of Jesus God and his love can be our greatest treasure.
With Jesus we can reject getting money and things in wicked ways, and instead do good things with our money.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Make Matthew 6:21 a family memory verse. Talk to your kids about what they treasure. How can we treasure Jesus more?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, help me to treasure you the most and to share all I have with others. Amen.
