In what city were DEGRASSI JUNIOR HIGH and DEGRASSI HIGH set?

The Canadian series DEGRASSI JUNIOR HIGH and its direct sequel DEGRASSI HIGH were teen dramas that ran from 1987 to 1991. A television movie SCHOOL'S OUT followed in 1992 (although it did not air on PBS until 1994). The shows aired on CBC in Canada and on PBS in the US and featured storylines focusing on diverse real-life issues facing teens. It was critically-acclaimed and must-see for many Gen Xers and Millennials. (The franchise was revived in the 2000s but did not run on PBS.)

One of the more interesting things about the program was its ensemble cast. The producers put together a repertory company of several dozen kids, many of whom were the central focus of storylines at one time or another while others were background only. This meant that major characters could see their roles lessened if the story called for it and minor characters could be enhanced if necessary.

DEGRASSI was well done and is still beloved by many who grew up watching it. No matter were it eventually ends up (if it ever comes back), it will always have those PBS ties.

Now the question is - where was the series set? The main action was at the fictional Degrassi schools but the drama was definitely set in a real city. But what city was it? In what city were DEGRASSI JUNIOR HIGH and DEGRASSI HIGH set?
