TLIC FAMILY. DAY 118. APRIL 28: LAMB OF GOD.

THINK TOGETHER

If you saw Jesus walking toward you right now what would you say?

READ TOGETHER

Did you know that Jesus had a cousin? His name was John. Sometimes we call him John the Baptist because he preached about repenting from sin and baptized people in the Jordan River in Israel. John also preached about the coming Messiah, God's hero, who would save his people. John understood that his cousin, Jesus, was God's Messiah. One day when John was out preaching to people and baptizing them, he saw Jesus walking toward him. Listen to what John said when he saw Jesus coming:

John 1:29. The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

What would you say if you saw Jesus walking toward you? Would you call him a lamb? Would you yell out, "Here comes God's Lamb!" John did. But why would John call Jesus a lamb? All throughout the Old Testament lambs were used as sacrifices for sin. Do you remember the Passover story? When the Israelites escaped from Egypt, they had to first put the blood of the lamb on their doorposts in order to escape the punishment of God for sin.

God is perfect love isn't he? And because God is perfect love he can't and won't tolerate sin. Why not? Because sin is unloving and cruel. God is righteous too, isn't he? That means he always makes everything right and good. Sin goes against God's righteousness and his goodness.

Have you ever sinned? Have you ever been unloving or unkind? Have you been bad instead of good? If you have, then you need a lamb. You need THE LAMB of God that takes away the sin of the world. You need a sacrifice for your sin. Jesus is the lamb that takes away our sin by being punished for our sin on the cross. When we trust in Jesus all our sins are taken away forever and ever. Now we can always be sure that God is our friend and our father.

Because of Jesus we can know that our sins have been taken away.

With Jesus we can keep going to God knowing we are forgiven and loved forever.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Read and discuss Isaiah 53:6. Make this verse a family memory verse.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, you are my lamb from God that took away my sins. Help me to always look at you when I sin knowing that I am forgiven and loved no matter what I do. Amen.
