from Sir Walter Scott - yes, a Scot! -and not Shakespeare, penned the immortal words which begin
"Oh what a tangled
web we weave when'ere first we
practice to deceive..."
my recall of the aphorism is different from The Goog's: I have it "...when'ere first we practice to decieve..." We can argue about it later, "Goog".
The rhymes found in "weave" and "deceive" supposedly violate the no-rhymes dictum of haikury. I shall ask my Marine Corps poet-pal Bruce Clay Jewett, Lance Major General of all Marines who published "Jo" a literary mimeo - (mimeograph?) - of sorts - cannot divulge the process, ONI still watching... A literary effort headed by "Juice" which stirred the ire of several in-house and at least one "out-house" intelligence/criminal investigative agency. In those days, Office of Naval Investigation had yet to bifurcate: Afterward and almost contemporaneously Naval Investigative Service (NIS) kept tabs on interior matters while ONI went after bigger fish. Poor Marine Corps CID (Criminal Investigative Division) was bereft of acclaim for the case of the dirty little newsletter, allegedly published on an intelligence drum-fed copier. None of us Informational Services Office pukes (later to morph into Public Affairs Office) knew of course anything about such matters. Besides, where's the beefy proof, guys? Oh? None available? So Sorry. We shall move on to further outrages of which less has been said in wordpress and facebook posts by yours untruly.)
