Today's blog title is brought to you by my inability to hear things properly.
The correct quote is: "We're gonna get fancy now."
The mistake was my fault though… I wasn't looking at the captions. Explaining my use of them to family has… never gone well.
One – the same one that always causes drama – told me that I'm not deaf, so I don't need captions. That it's irritating to her because she can't watch my TV. She asked how she could turn them off. I explained as politely as possible that it was my television, and if I used captions, she just had to deal with it.
It's not as if I can tolerate her setting her TV volume at 65… That's way too loud for me. I'm not a fan of loud sounds at all. And when she doesn't want to speak to me, she raises her volume even more – to drown me out.
Sooo rude!
I think she got annoyed at my volume on the set and raised it, then got annoyed at me because I lowered the volume down and explained that I don't play my TV loud on a regular basis. That's not the reason I have problems hearing what people are saying either.
Volume doesn't matter to me at all. I was right in front of someone today and someone to my left told me something about this person, and I couldn't understand it. I had to ask her what she meant. It's so frustrating to ask people to repeat what they've said.
Years ago, when I played percussion, no one ever told me to use ear protection. So unfortunately, I miss a lot in conversation. I tend to awkwardly stand there, smiling and nodding ever so often, but I honestly have no clue what's being said.

You would think because I can appreciate music and am able to sing that my hearing would be on an even level. And sadly, that's not the truth at all. Though I have trained myself to sing in a way where I'm on cue, I still struggle with music if I'm hearing it for the first time with no lyrics or captions.
Additionally: Oh, my goodness! I just found the long missing remote to my portable flatscreen TV! I've been looking for that thing for months! I was debating trying to buy a new one, but did not want to spend like $30-$40 for a remote to a TV that only cost me $99.
Also: Happy day! Or evening, wherever you are! Now, I must go clean out the cat's toilet, putter around my office and I'm done for the day in here!
